Adrienne Propp

BioI am a fourth year PhD student in ICME (the Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering). Prior to Stanford, I was working as a technical analyst at the RAND Corporation where I spent most of my time designing microsimulations and other models to investigate topics in healthcare, education, disaster relief, and international relations.
My research interests lie at the intersection of mathematics, data, and modeling, which has led me to a focus on scientific machine learning (SciML). Specifically, I am working on developing new graph-based surrogate modeling methods for low-data regimes. I am grateful to be advised by Daniel Tartakovsky, During my PhD, I have also collaborated with Jenny Suckale to model volcanic lava fountaining, and Susan Athey and Sanath Kumar Krishnamurthy to design improved algorithms for contextual bandits.
Past research projects have ranged from computational models of the heart to inverse modeling to predict satellite performance. -
Gary Qian

BioI am currently a 2nd year PhD student in Management Science and Engineering at Stanford working with Professor Margaret Brandeau. My research focuses on the development of applied mathematical, economic models, and machine learning models to support health policy decisions. My recent work has been focused on HIV prevention and treatment programs, programs to control US opioid epidemic, and policies for minimizing spread of infectious diseases (including COVID-19).
I am passionate about using optimization theory and machine learning to implement scalable solutions in solving complex, real-world problems including but not limited to applications in healthcare. -
Yash Rampuria

BioI am an MS student, pursuing robotics at Stanford University. I am particularly interested in AI applications to autonomous mobility. My work at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has spanned the intersection of computer vision, SLAM and controls for self-driving, drones and healthcare. I have served as the CTO of Autonomous systems at IIT Bombay Racing Driverless, leading a team of 100+ students in building self-driving race cars for Formula Student, United Kingdom.
Leading multiple teams throughout my education has allowed me to hone my teamwork and management skills, while staying deeply involved in engineering and technology. -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsCompared to the technical advancements in AI, the area of technical AI ethics is significantly understudied. Novel, complex autonomous systems are being developed without devoting enough time to their potential negative implications and how they can be mitigated. Given the increasing use of such systems throughout society, this discrepancy sparked Anka's interest in contributing to research in responsible AI, both from a technical and a governance perspective.

Carlos Jose Rodriguez Santiago

BioCarlos Rodriguez Santiago is a Chemical Engineering PhD candidate working in the lab of Dr. Judith Shizuru to develop protein therapeutics that will facilitate hematopoietic stem cell transplantation without the need for chemotherapy or radiation. His PhD thesis work is at the intersection of immunology, oncology, and protein engineering. Carlos is also a Sarafan CheM-H Lipshultz Graduate Fellow participating in the Chemistry/Biology Interface (CBI) Predoctoral training program which aims to cultivate interactions and thinking across disciplinary lines to enable innovations that improve human health.
Prior to his PhD work, Carlos helped found the Protein Engineering Knowledge Center (PEKC) at Stanfords Innovative Medicines Accelerator (IMA). There he collaborated with researchers to discover and engineer antibodies against therapeutically relevant targets. Several antibodies discovered by Carlos have officially been licensed out for further therapeutic development. -
Milenia Rojas Mendoza

OTL Intern, Office of Technology Licensing (OTL)BioMilenia Rojas (she/her) is a PhD candidate in the Chemical Engineering Department at Stanford University. She is advised by Thomas Jaramillo. Milenia's research focuses on integrating cost-effective, earth-abundant metal catalysts into membrane electrode assembly water electrolyzers for hydrogen production. Her goal is to reduce production costs, extend lifespan, and enhance scalability to support the energy transition. She is part of the Emerson Consequential Scholars Program and works part time at the office of technology transfer. She graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering from the University of Rochester.
