Yanjie Shao
Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering
BioYanjie Shao is an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and his B.S. in Physics from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). His research develops advanced semiconductor materials, devices, and integrated systems for energy-efficient information processing, with a particular focus on CMOS-compatible technologies, three-dimensional electronics, and nanoscale transport physics. His work integrates materials synthesis, nanofabrication, device characterization, and physics-based modeling.
Before joining Stanford, Yanjie was a postdoctoral researcher at MIT working with Prof. Jesús del Alamo and Prof. Dimitri Antoniadis, where he developed high-performance amorphous oxide semiconductor transistors and nanoscale ferroelectric devices for logic, memory, and AI hardware applications. His doctoral research at MIT, advised by Prof. Jesús del Alamo, advanced ultra-scaled tunneling transistors for low-voltage electronics by leveraging extreme quantum confinement to engineer tunneling transport at the nanoscale. He was a recipient of the Intel's 2023 Outstanding Researcher Award. -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsI have over 25 years experience in theoretical and computational research related to complex fluids following my PhD in 1986. This includes work in suspension mechanics of rigid partlcles (rods), solution mechanics of polymers and most recently suspensions of vesicles, capsules and mixtures of these with rigid particles. My research group is internationally known for pioneering work in all these areas.
