Scott Calvert

BioScott Calvert is responsible for school operations including finance, HR, IT, facilities, and research administration. He held a similar position at Stanford in the office of the vice provost for undergraduate education prior to joining the engineering team. Before coming to Stanford, Scott was a Navy fighter pilot for 21 years after receiving a commission through the NROTC program at Duke University where he earned a BSE in mechanical engineering. He made numerous deployments aboard aircraft carriers flying F-14s and F/A-18s, and between squadron assignments, he attended US Navy Test Pilot School on a cooperative program with the Naval Postgraduate School where he earned an MSAE in aeronautical engineering. In addition, he has an MBA from Columbia University.

Edward Y. Chang
Acting Professor, Computer Science
BioEdward Y. Chang has been an adjunct professor in Stanford’s Computer Science Department since 2019. Previously, he was a tenured professor at UC Santa Barbara. From 2006 to 2012, he served as a director at Google Research, where he pioneered data-centric and parallel machine learning and contributed to the ImageNet project. Chang later became president of HTC Healthcare, where he developed AI-powered diagnostics and won the Tricorder XPRIZE. He has also held positions at HKUST and UC Berkeley. Chang earned an MS in Computer Science and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford. He is a Fellow of ACM and IEEE for his contributions to scalable machine learning and healthcare AI.
Since 2019, Chang’s research has focused on virtual assistance, collaborating with Monica Lam, and more recently on large language models (LLMs). He hypothesizes that LLM Collaborative Intelligence (LCI) could pave the way toward artificial general intelligence (AGI).

Inventor of >150 US patents and some significant ideals that have been used in over 10 generations of NAND memory chip and systems, such as binary cache for MLC (USP# 5,930,167 ), fast MLC NAND writing method GPW (USP# 6,522,580 and 6,643,188 ), read method to correct cell to cell coupling effect (USP#5,867,429), NAND memory WL air-gap (USP# 7,045,849 ), and highly reliable systems EPWR (USP#8,214,700, 8,386,861 aka EPWR).
Published the paper that coined the term GIDL, and the first paper that identified the physics of the GIDL current as due to band-to-band tunneling.

Jason Cornelius
Lecturer, Aeronautics and Astronautics
BioDr. Jason Cornelius is an aerospace engineer in the Aeromechanics Office at NASA Ames Research Center. His research interests are at the intersection of high-performance GPU computing and machine learning towards aerospace vehicle design optimization. Jason has supported the NASA Dragonfly New Frontiers Mission since its inception in 2016, focusing on the rotor aerodynamic and structural design. He is now PI for the Digital Transformation Prototype Project, “Multi-fidelity ML-based Surrogate Models for Terrestrial and Planetary Aerial Vehicles” and the NASA ARC Center Innovation Fund project, “Surrogate-based Design Optimization for a Long-Range Mars Rotorcraft.” Dr. Cornelius received his PhD from the Pennsylvania State University as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. He received the 2023 AIAA Young Professional of the Year Award and has received best paper awards for his work in machine-learning rotor aerodynamic design optimization.
Outside of work, Jason has spent considerable time in both Russia and China, where he learned new languages and explored different cultures. His main goal is to build strong teams to solve some of the world's toughest engineering problems.
