BioHello! I’m a fourth year PhD candidate at ICME where I’m lucky to be advised by Johan Ugander, and grateful to be a Knight-Hennessy Scholar and NSF Graduate Research Fellow. I received my BS in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from the Colorado School of Mines in May 2017 and my MS in Computer Science from the University of Colorado, Boulder in August 2018. After receiving my MS I was a visiting researcher in the Stanford Autonomous Systems Lab, a Safeway cake decorator, and the owner and baker of Bell’s Bakery.

BioHey there, I was born and raised in Dalton, GA for 19 years, until I transferred from Dalton State Community College to Stanford University for the 2020/2021 school year. If I were to summarize myself, I would say that I am a proud Mexican American who is in the pursuit of that fabled American Dream I grew up hearing about. I am determined to change the trajectory of my family tree and will be forever grateful of having had the opportunity to attend Stanford University.

BioI am a PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering working at Professor Jelena Vuckovic's Nanoscale Quantum Photonics Laboratory. My research interests are computational optimizations of photonic devices and quantum technologies made from nanoscale fabrications.

BioAlex Aiken is the Alcatel-Lucent Professor of Computer Science at Stanford. Alex received his Bachelors degree in Computer Science and Music from Bowling Green State University in 1983 and his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1988. Alex was a Research Staff Member at the IBM Almaden Research Center (1988-1993) and a Professor in the EECS department at UC Berkeley (1993-2003) before joining the Stanford faculty in 2003. His research interest is in areas related to programming languages.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur goal is to develop and clinically implement new technologies for high-precision and noninvasive intervention upon the nervous system. Every few millimeters of the brain is functionally distinct, and different parts of the brain may have counteracting responses to therapy. To better match our therapies to neuroscience, we develop techniques that allow intervention upon only the right part of the nervous system at the right time, using technologies like focused ultrasound and nanotechnology.
