Sarah Chan

BioSarah Chan, DMA, Lecturer, Department of Music, Stanford University.
An international concert pianist and teacher, Sarah Chan has performed throughout America, Europe, and Asia, including at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Berlin Philharmonie, National Philharmonic of Ukraine, Salle Cortot-Paris, Künstlerhaus Munich, St.James Piccadilly-London, Sala Atenu-Bacau-Romania, Beifang Performing Arts Hall, and Ningxia Normal Concert Hall. Chan has appeared as concerto soloist with the National "Mihail Jora" Philharmonic of Romania, Romanian State Symphony, New York Concert Artists Symphony, Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony, and Enid Symphony Orchestra. Chan’s debut recording album, “Portraits of France and Spain: Piano Music from Impressionism and National Romanticism to the Avant-Garde, 1880-1960” will be released in 2024.

Chan’s work engages a simultaneous depth of focus and breadth of multidimensional expressivity in performance and teaching of interpretive (historical/contemporary), creative (music improvisation/extemporized art), and interdisciplinary (music/STEM, music/visual arts, music in the humanities) engagement. Dr. Chan serves as Lecturer in the Department of Music at Stanford University. She also serves as Coordinator of Keyboard Studies and Associate Professor of Music (Keyboard Studies/Music Theory) in the Department of Music at California State University, Stanislaus. Chan trained musically at the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester (D.M.A.), Le Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (Paris Conservatory of Music), Peabody Conservatory of Music (M.M.), Manhattan School of Music (B.M.), and the University of Michigan. She pursued liberal arts studies with a concentration in French and French Literature at La Sorbonne, Columbia University, and the University of Michigan. Sarah Chan is a longstanding adjudicator for The American Prize Competitions as well as Board Member for Performance and Chair of the Performance Council for The College Music Society. -
Hongchan Choi
Adjunct Professor, Music
BioAs a musician/engineer, Hongchan strives to push boundaries of the open web platform for music technology.
He studied with Jonathan Berger, Chris Chafe, and Ge Wang for my doctoral research at CCRMA between 2010 and 2014. After completing the doctoral thesis 《Collaborative Musicking on the Web》 in 2014, Hongchan joined Google Chrome where he currently leads various web music technology projects as a Technical Lead and Manager.
Outside of Google, he serves as a co-chair of W3C Audio Working Group driving a collective effort of multiple industry professionals to design advanced audio capabilities for the web platform. Hongchan also continues to engage with academia as an Adjunct Professor at CCRMA, Stanford university. -
Sara Clemente

BioBorn in Connecticut but raised in Ecuador, Sara Clemente spent the majority of her early childhood admiring the rich Andean Indigenous cultures that made her native city of Cuenca so unique. Her experiences taught her to value the indigenous groups present in contemporary societies and the roles that they have in enabling diversity and interconnectivity to flourish in South American nations. She attended New York City’s Macaulay Honors College and chose to pursue her interests in indigenous peoples’ language and land rights by majoring in Linguistics, Translation, and Human Rights. She has also interned at VIVAT International as both a translator and researcher in a variety of land grabbing projects. Her interests in language, Human Rights, and indigenous peoples led her to pursue a master’s in Latin American Studies and Human Rights in Latin American Studies at CLAS. Currently, she manages, plans, and develops budgets for events and communications at CLAS. In order to find balance in her life, Sara loves to backpack and practice Vinyasa and Aerial Yoga and has her 200-hr Yoga Teacher Training Certificate.

Maxe Crandall
Associate Director, Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
BioMaxe Crandall is Associate Director of the Program in Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Stanford University. Maxe works at the intersections of transgender studies and experimental poetics and performance. His performance novel about AIDS archives and intergenerational memory The Nancy Reagan Collection (Futurepoem) was on the New York Public Library’s Best 10 Poetry Books of 2020, LitHub’s 65 Favorite Books of 2020, and was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award in Transgender Poetry.
He is a poet, playwright, and director; author of the chapbooks Emoji for Cher Heart (belladonna*, 2015) and Together Men Make Paradigms (Portable Press @ Yo-Yo Labs, 2014); and the founder of the theater company Beautiful Moments in Popular Culture, which existed, prior to the pandemic, as a poets theater series at The Stud in San Francisco. He has presented plays at venues including Dixon Place, Joe Goode Annex, The Leather Archives & Museum, and the Baltimore Museum of Art. His work is anthologized in We Want It All: An Anthology of Radical Trans Poetics (Nightboat 2020), The Brooklyn Poets Anthology (Brooklyn Arts Press 2017), and Troubling the Line (Nightboat Books 2013). Maxe has received fellowships from MacDowell, the Lambda Literary Foundation, the Poetry Project, Poets House, SFMOMA Open Space, and a Eureka Commission from Onassis USA. -
Jennifer Crosby

Current Role at StanfordJennifer coordinates the Psych One course and the Psych One program, including supporting the graduate and undergraduate Teaching Fellows and administering the Psych One course in partnership with the team of faculty instructors. She is particularly interested in inclusive classroom practices and supporting the achievement of all Stanford students.
