Bee has been with Stanford for more than 20 years. She started working for Department of Urology, then moved to Department of Medicine as a Residency Coordinator. In 2004, she ventured to Department of Pediatrics to run the Fellowship Program. After working for School of Medicine, she decided to join the other side of the campus in the Department of Theater and Performance Studies and explore her creative side. Bee loves to dance and listen to different kinds of music (except for heavy metal). When she is off from work, she loves to watch various concerts around the Bay Area. She loves dogs and will stop, pet or sometimes talk to dogs that walk around campus. email -
Alexandrea Henry

SU Student - Summer, SociologyBioAlexandrea Henry, from Sacramento, CA, is a Ph.D. student in the Graduate School of Education in the Race, Inequality, and Language in Education and Curriculum and Teacher Education programs. They earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and minor in education from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Pennsylvania. Alexandrea’s research draws upon Black studies, Abolitionist pedagogy, Critical Pedagogy, and studies of Carceral Logics in education to consider how young people are making sense of power through discipline. Moreover, she is interested in centering the experiences and expertise of K-2 students in the fight for liberatory learning spaces. While at Stanford, Alexandrea has worked on the Accessible Ethnic Studies project, Newberry Institute project, Juvenile Justice and Alternative Education project, has taught in San Bruno Jail, and is a Systems Navigator with the Santa Clara Public Defenders Office. Previously, they were a public school teacher and union organizer in North Philadelphia, a preschool teacher in Oakland, and has worked on district-level projects related to equity and professional development.

BioI am currently studying solutions to residential instability in Oakland at the Changing Cities Research Lab at Stanford. I spent the previous year as a Research Associate at the Stanford Center for Racial Justice, leading an initiative on alternative first response programs in the Bay Area. Previously, I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Chicago with a B.A. in Sociology with honors and a specialization in computational methods. All of my work is dedicated to my late parent Polly, who still inspires me to be a more empathetic, thoughtful, curious, and rigorous researcher every day. In my free time, I love to play chess in the park and write sci-fi.

Virginia A. Marchman

Staff, PsychologyBioAs a developmental psychologist, my main areas of research are language development, language disorders, and early childhood development. I have worked extensively with parent report measures of early vocabulary, specifically, the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventories (CDIs). I serve on the CDI Advisory Board, and have worked on many projects including the Web-CDI, the CDI Scoring program, and Wordbank, an open repository of CDI instruments from many different languages. My current studies examine links between children's language processing skill, early learning environments, and individual differences in language development in monolingual and bilingual learners from diverse backgrounds. Our team also explores the importance of environmental stimulation in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), showing that early engagement in developmental care activities (e.g., skin-to-skin care, holding, talking) has important consequences for positive neurological and behavioral outcomes. I am also involved in a large-scale NIH-funded project following infants born preterm from birth to 18 months, examining the neurodevelopmental and environmental influences on development in this at risk population. In addition to conducting studies that have a basic science focus, I have also been Director of Program Evaluation for the Habla Conmigo project, overseeing the evaluation of parenting intervention programs designed to facilitate caregiver engagement in Latina mothers and their young children.
