John Paul Statz
Postdoctoral Scholar, Developmental Biology
BioI am fascinated by many aspects of our world, grateful to have a chance to poke around and see how some of it works. Born and raised in Minnesota, first generation college student. A genetics course late in my undergraduate studies set me on the path toward scientific research, and I hope to help inspire that same curiosity in the next generation. My research interests center on genetics, development, reproduction, and the interactions between animals and microbes. Outside of the lab, I spend most of my time with daughter and wife, cooking and baking, walking in nature, and biking around town.

Melissa Steele-Ogus
Postdoctoral Scholar, Pathology
BioMelissa Steele-Ogus grew up in Berkeley, California. She received a BS in Environmental Sciences and BA in Molecular Biology from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2012. She earned a PhD in Biology from the University of Washington in 2021, studying the actin cytoskeleton of Giardia lamblia. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, baking, and birdwatching. She may be secretly some sort of weird bug, but probably isn't.

Rasmus Stenlid
Postdoctoral Scholar, Epidemiology
BioRasmus Stenlid, MD, RD, PhD, is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health at Stanford School of Medicine. A physician by training, Dr. Stenlid’s research focuses on preventing and treating diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. His research includes randomized clinical trials, with an emphasis on GLP-1 therapies and nutritional interventions. In addition, Dr. Stenlid investigates biomarkers of future cardiovascular events, as well as the pathophysiological links between obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

Ashley Styczynski
Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine - Infectious Diseases
BioAshley Styczynski, MD, MPH, is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases & Geographic Medicine and Global Health Faculty Fellow, and a Medical Officer in the International Infection and Control Branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dr. Styczynski's research interests are in infectious disease epidemiology, global health, emerging infections, and antimicrobial resistance. She holds an MPH from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and an MD from University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to coming to Stanford for her infectious disease fellowship, she spent two years as an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer at the CDC. During her time as an EIS officer, Dr. Styczynski conducted outbreak investigations on Zika virus, vaccinia virus, and rabies. She is currently conducting research on antimicrobial resistance and interventions to reduce nosocomial infections within low-resource healthcare facilities globally.
