Sherman Leung

Resident in Emergency MedicineBioSherman is an emergency medicine resident physician serving patients at Stanford Hospital, Kaiser Permanante Santa Clara, and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Before his career in medicine, Sherman spent time as a software engineer, digital health product manager, and early-stage healthcare investor. He was named to MedTech Boston’s “40 under 40 Healthcare Innovators” for his work on a national care coordination platform serving ACOs, health systems and payers. He was also an early clinical product leader at Pearl Health supporting ACO Reach entities and value-based primary care enablement and Counsel Health focused on designing AI-enabled virtual care pathways. He received an MD at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai through the support of the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship where he started MD+, a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to empowering aspiring physician-innovators.
While in medical school, he was awarded the Mount Sinai Health System Population Health Fellowship where he designed an integrated primary care and behavioral health model to decrease total cost of care for mental health co-morbidities. At Stanford, he serves as a clinical administrative liaison on a number of committees and workgroups including the Stanford Hospital @ Home Program, Stanford Healthcare Alliance (an employer-based health plan), and reducing unnecessary ED utilization via increasing utilization of alternative sites of care. He cares deeply about leveraging his background in technology to support underserved patient populations and building a more equitable, efficient, and cost-effective healthcare system. -
Simon Levinson

Resident in NeurosurgeryBioSimon was born and raised in and around New York City. He moved to California to attend the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he obtained undergraduate degrees in both political theory and neuroscience. Simon continued his education at UCLA where he attended the David Geffen School of Medicine. While a medical student he worked under the mentorship of Dr. Carlos Cepeda to investigate the cellular mechanisms underlying pediatric epilepsy. Additionally, under the mentorship of Dr. Ausaf Bari he created an MRI based structural atlas of the human brainstem. Simon is currently undergoing clinical training in neurologic surgery at Stanford University. He is interested in understanding how neural networks function and contribute to disease and how they can aid in developing novel treatment therapies. Outside of medicine, Simon enjoys spending time with his wife, going for hikes with their dog, traveling, listening to audiobooks, and running.

Matheus Otero

BioDr. Matheus Otero is a neurologist based in Palo Alto, California. He earned his medical degree from Universidade Salvador (UNIFACS) in Brazil and completed his internship and neurology residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He has pursued extensive clinical and research training across diverse academic settings, including serving as a Research Fellow at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, where he was involved in neurophysiology, acute brain injury, and neurocritical care-related research. Dr. Otero’s scholarly work spans neurology, neurophysiology, and outcomes following cardiac arrest and traumatic brain injury. His clinical interests include epilepsy, EEG interpretation, neuromodulation and the application of advanced neurophysiologic monitoring in acute and inpatient settings. He is particularly interested in the intersection of clinical neurology, technology, and data-driven innovation, with a growing focus on how emerging tools such as AI can enhance diagnosis, monitoring, and patient outcomes in neurological disease.

Ruikang Liu, MD, FAAP, CAQSM, RMSK

BioDr. Liu is a board-certified primary care pediatrician, fellowship trained sports medicine specialist (peds and adults), and registered in musculoskeletal ultrasonography. He aims to help patients become healthier, more active, while staying safe and in less pain.
He got his Bachelor’s from Johns Hopkins University, and medical degree and pediatrics training, including a Chief Instructor year, at Penn State. He then did a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Colorado, where he helped in the care of several notable professional teams including Denver Nuggets, Colorado Rapids, and Colorado Avalanche. Prior to joining Stanford UMP, he was the APD of the LSU Shreveport Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship, where in addition to leading the didactics curriculum, he was also co-head team physician for Grambling State University, medical director for a USA Judo tournament, and ringside physician for USA Boxing amongst many other roles.
Dr. Liu is known nationally in the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, serving past roles including the Pediatric Residency Representative, Fellowship Class Representative, Co-chair of the Pediatric Curriculum Subcommittee, Co-Chair of the SportsMedRef Subcommittee, and is currently the Chair of the Special Interest Group Subcommittee.
Outside of work, Dr. Liu enjoys training martial arts and hiking with his wife and dogs. -
