Zachary Wagner
Postdoctoral Research Fellow, General Internal Medicine
BioZachary Wagner's research applies economic theory and econometrics to questions relating to global health policy, with an emphasis on improving health related behaviors in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. He has 16 peer reviewed publications in leading health policy and medical journals such as The BMJ, Health Affairs, Clinical Infectious Disease, and the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. His work has been featured in an array of news outlets including the Los Angeles Times, Vox, and MSNBC. His areas of expertise include community health workers, HIV/AIDS, child diarrhea, maternal and child nutrition, private sector health care, and health insurance for the poor. Zach has led multiple randomized controlled trials in East Africa and quasi-experimental impact evaluations in India. He earned a PhD in Health Economics from UC Berkeley and a master’s degree in international development from UC San Diego.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research interests are to identify and to elucidate the key signaling pathways in Lowe Syndrome disease, and also to develop a targeted therapy for Lowe syndrome patients. So far, there is no treatment for Lowe syndrome. I have a broad background in cell biology, with specific training and expertise in protein trafficking and signaling pathways.
