Jen Haensel
Basic Life Research Scientist, Ophthalmology Research/Clinical Trials
BioI am a Research Scientist in the Roberts Vision Development & Oculomotor Lab at Stanford University’s Department of Ophthalmology, working at the intersection of vision science, neuroscience, and experimental psychology. My current research uses eye-tracking, photorefraction, and psychophysics to study oculomotor development and visual function in amblyopia, strabismus, and concussion. I also work on developing methodology to record accommodative measurements and gaze behaviour in dynamic, naturalistic settings.
I completed my PhD in Experimental Psychology at Birkbeck, University of London (UK), where I used advanced eye-tracking techniques to study the influence of postnatal experience on social gaze behaviour. Prior to joining Stanford, I also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bath (UK), developing empirical human-robot interaction studies to inform the ethical design of humanoid robots. -

BioBelal grew up in Fremont and later lived in Singapore where he completed his secondary education. He received his bachelors in Biological Psychology and then his medical degree from Tufts University. He completed his internal medicine and chief residency at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center which solidified his interest in care for the medically underserved. His current research interests include improving diuretic management in advanced CKD and hemodialysis as well as CKD care for underserved communities

This includes developing and leading the execution of major strategic initiatives and ensuring foundational operations are rigorous and effectively support the tripartite missions of Education, Research and Patient Care. I am a member of the Dean's leadership team and a representative of the School of Medicine in a variety of forums throughout Stanford and externally
My role encompasses responsibilities as Associate Dean, Industry Relations and Digital Health, In this capacity, I lead Stanford Medicine’s Office of Industry Relations and Digital Health (IRDH) whose mission is to foster relationships that will promote discovery, accelerate the use of technologies that advance human health, and translate today’s breakthroughs into tomorrow’s standard of care. IRDH serves as the front door for organizations interested in exploring a strategic relationship with Stanford Medicine. The work is part of Stanford Medicine's Strategy Team, led by Priya Singh.
I also co-lead the Stanford Medicine Catalyst program with Dr. Euan Ashley. We focus on discovering, supporting and propelling healthcare innovation from within the Stanford community. She is also an Instructor (Affiliated) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine. She received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis and completed her predoctoral clinical internship and postdoctoral research fellowship at VA Palo Alto Health Care System. Funded by the VA VISN 21 Early Career Award Program, Dr. Hallenbeck's research focuses on PTSD and depression and their impact on psychosocial functioning. She studies how to leverage digital health technology (e.g., mobile apps) and analytic tools (e.g., machine learning) to provide timely and personalized assessments and interventions for these conditions.

BioDr. Alesha Heath is a Postdoctoral Scholar at Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford School of Medicine and the MIRECC the VA Palo Alto. She earned her PhD from the University of Western Australia and Sorbonne University.
Dr. Heath's research has been primarily focused on the mechanisms and applications of brain stimulation therapies, in particular repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation. Her research involves both basic and clinical components with the aim of improving the efficacy of these therapies for the treatment of disorders such as depression and Alzheimer's disease.
