Michael Halaas
Associate Dean and Chief Operating Officer, SoM, Chief Operating Officer - Operations
Current Role at StanfordIn my role as Chief Operating Officer and Associate Dean, I provide oversight and strategic leadership of the operations of the School of Medicine. This includes developing and leading the execution of major strategic initiatives and ensuring foundational operations are rigorous and effectively support the tripartite missions of Education, Research and Patient Care. I am a member of the Dean's leadership team and a representative of the School of Medicine in a variety of forums throughout Stanford and externally
My role encompasses responsibilities as Associate Dean, Industry Relations and Digital Health, In this capacity, I lead Stanford Medicine’s Office of Industry Relations and Digital Health (IRDH) whose mission is to foster relationships that will promote discovery, accelerate the use of technologies that advance human health, and translate today’s breakthroughs into tomorrow’s standard of care. IRDH serves as the front door for organizations interested in exploring a strategic relationship with Stanford Medicine. The work is part of Stanford Medicine's Strategy Team, led by Priya Singh.
I also co-lead the Stanford Medicine Catalyst program with Dr. Euan Ashley. We focus on discovering, supporting and propelling healthcare innovation from within the Stanford community. When these innovations are ready, we assist in the commercialization and scaling to reach maximum impact and improve human health. https://smcatalyst.stanford.edu
The combination of these roles provides a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of transformative health innovation and the operations of complex academic medical center ecosystem. -

Kevin Helenius, MPA, PA-C, ATC

BioKevin Helenius is a board-certified physician assistant (PA-C) in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. He graduated with his Master Physician Assistant (MPA) degree from Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, CA. Kevin is also a board-certified athletic trainer (ATC) and received his education and training at Azusa Pacific University. He began his career in sports medicine as the athletic trainer at a local high school in San Jose, CA. Prior to his physician assistant education, Kevin provided care in the Sports Medicine clinic at Stanford Health Care. Currently, he assists Dr. Michael T Freehill in surgery and provides patient care in the Shoulder & Elbow clinic.

Sanna Elizabeth Herwald

Resident in RadiologyBioSanna Herwald received her M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Tufts University. Her Ph.D. research in the field of Microbiology focused on the opportunistic fungal pathogen Candida albicans. During her time in the M.D.-Ph.D. program she discovered her interest in Radiology, and the possibilities for visualizing the interaction between microorganisms and the human body.

Jon Hochstein
Resident in Cardiothoracic Surgery
Affiliate, Dean's Office Operations - Dean OtherBioI'm a Cardiothoracic Surgery resident at Stanford Health Care. I also completed an intern year in Pediatrics resident at Boston Children’s Hospital before transitioning to cardiothoracic surgery. I received my MD from Harvard Medical School in the Health Sciences and Technology program joint with MIT. I trained as a biomedical engineering at the Johns Hopkins University with a focus in instrumentation.
I've interests in medical devices spanning from assistive robotics, surgical devices, to point of care devices. I have extensive experience working in the electronics and coding aspect of device development.
My long term goal is to become a congenital cardiovascular surgeon and improve the field of transplantation (partial and whole), congenital cardiac surgery techniques, and congenital mechanical circulatory support. This vocation comes from my personal experience receiving a heart transplant in 1999. -
Yuhao (Danny) Huang

Resident in NeurosurgeryBioI am a resident and post-doctorate researcher in the Department of Neurosurgery at Stanford University. As a physician-scientist with a focus on signal processing and neural electrophysiology, I work with multimodal datasets to understand how brain signals correlate with human behavior. I am interested in using computer vision and machine learning to parse neural correlates of behavior under naturalistic settings. Another area of interest involves building robust neuro-modulatory treatments for functional disorders and epilepsy. I received my BSc at University of Alberta and my MD at Stanford University.
