Current Research and Scholarly InterestsAs a professor in the Medical Center Line, my primary investigative interest has been in clinical neuroradiology. This encompasses spinal cord and spine disease, degenerative and demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system, strokes and infarction, and chronic epilepsy syndromes. Facial and head and neck vascular malformations and hemangiomas have been a focus of interest for many years, with collaborative projects involving dermatology and functional restoration services.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy laboratory develops machine learning methods to help physicians detect disease and eliminate diagnostic errors. My laboratory is developing neural network systems that detect and classify disease on medical images. We also develop natural language processing methods that use the narrative radiology report for contrastive learning and other multi-modal methods that improve the accuracy and capability of machine learning systems.

Bryan Lanzman, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor, Radiology
BioDr. Bryan Lanzman completed his medical degree and radiology residency at Columbia University Medical Center, before coming to Stanford University for a 2-year Neuroradiology fellowship. He joined the faculty at Stanford in 2017 and is actively involved in medical student and resident education, as well as quality improvement efforts within the neuroradiology section. He also serves as a co-director of the Neuroradiology clerkship for medical students, and for the Neuroradiology elective for neurology residents.

David Larson

Larson, MD, MBA, is Professor of Radiology (Pediatric Radiology) and Executive Vice Chair in the Department of Radiology at Stanford University. He also serves as the Associate Chief Quality Officer for Improvement for Stanford Health Care, overseeing improvement training programs at SHC. Dr. Larson is a national thought leader in radiology quality improvement and patient safety, and a regular speaker regarding topics ranging from pediatric CT radiation dose optimization to radiology peer learning. He is the founder of Stanford’s Realizing Improvement through Team Empowerment (RITE) program and co-founder of the Clinical Effectiveness Leadership Training (CELT) program, continuing to serve as co-executive director of both programs. He also founded and leads the Stanford Medicine Improvement Capability Development Program (ICDP) and the Advanced Course in Improvement Science (ACIS).
Dr. Larson is the founder and program chair for the annual Radiology Improvement Summit held annually at Stanford, which began in 2015. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the American Board of Radiology, overseeing quality and safety, and on the Board of Chancellors for the American College of Radiology as the chair of the ACR's Commission on Quality and Safety. He also founded and leads the ACR Learning Network, which was launched in 2021.
Prior to his position at Stanford, Dr. Larson was the Janet L. Strife Chair for Quality and Safety in Radiology and a faculty member of the James M. Anderson Center for Health Systems Excellence at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He holds MD and MBA degrees from Yale University and completed his training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Larson is a pediatric radiologist at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. He and his wife, Tara, live in Portola Valley, California and have four children. -

Marc Levenston

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy lab's research involves the function, degeneration and repair of musculoskeletal soft tissues, with a focus on meniscal fibrocartilage and articular cartilage. We are particularly interested in the complex interactions between biophysical and biochemical cues in controlling cell behavior, the roles of these interactions in degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis, and development of tissue engineered 3D model systems for studying physical influences on primary and progenitor cells.

Congyu Liao
Instructor, Radiology
BioCongyu Liao is an Instructor in the Radiological Sciences Laboratory (RSL) at Stanford University. Dr. Liao earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Zhejiang University, China, in 2018. Following his PhD, he joined the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow under Dr. Kawin Setsompop, where his research focused on improving MRI data acquisition and reconstruction efficiency. In 2021, he joined Dr. Setsompop's lab at Stanford RSL as an Instructor, with research focused on developing novel technologies for diffusion and quantitative MRI. Dr. Liao has received several honors, including the Summa Cum Laude Merit Award and the Junior Fellow Award from the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM). Recently, he was awarded an NIH R01 grant as Principal Investigator to use mesoscale quantitative and diffusion MRI techniques to study infant brain development.

Margaret Chin-Chin Lin

BioDr. Margaret Lin is a board certified radiologist with subspecialty training in thoracic and cardiovascular imaging. Dr. Lin specializes in diseases affecting the lungs and airways, including cancer, infection, and interstitial and inhalational lung diseases. Dr. Lin has a passion for resident education and development of curricula and new educational tools. She is the current Program Director for the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Lipson's research interests include breast density and breast cancer risk assessment; informatics applications in breast imaging; early breast cancer detection and extent of disease evaluation using contrast enhanced mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis, and high resolution breast MRI; novel blood and imaging biomarkers of breast cancer burden and neoadjuvant treatment response; and image-guided wireless localization techniques for breast surgery.

Andreas Loening

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy lab focuses on expanding the capability of MR and PET/MR as it relates to applications in body imaging. Clinical research aims include the application of new or improved MR sequences to increase the speed, robustness, and diagnostic capability of body MR. Translation research aims include exploring new MR contrast mechanisms and contrast agents, such as for the stratification of cancer within the prostate and the evaluation of the lymphatic system.
