Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research at present focuses on three areas: 1) understanding the mechanisms of myopia in order to halt the growing myopia epidemic 2) improving teleophthalmology to increase access to ophthalmic care, with a focus on mobile imaging and rapid interpretation through artificial intelligence; and 3) using big data to understand and shape practice patterns. I believe that in the future, most ophthalmic diagnoses and medical treatments will be automated through imaging and mobile diagnostic devices. My goal is to make discoveries within the field of Ophthalmology that will impact the rest of medicine, taking advantage of our ready access to the only visible portion of the central nervous system.
