Jenna Forsyth
Director, Project Unleaded, Human and Planetary Health
BioJenna Forsyth, PhD, is an interdisciplinary environmental health scientist. She has focused on lead exposure research for 10 years and currently oversees the research portfolio for Project Unleaded - an initiative to identify and mitigate priority sources of lead poisoning globally, with an emphasis in South Asia. Based on her team’s discovery and effort to address lead poisoning from turmeric in Bangladesh, she was named one of the 100 most influential people in Global Health by Time Magazine in 2024. Prior to studying lead contamination and poisoning, she spent nearly 10 years addressing global and environmental health problems from contaminants in the air, water, soil, and food. Her work has been featured in The Economist, The Washington Post, Vox, The Scientist, Undark, Think Global Health, Environmental Health News, Stanford Medicine, Effective Altruism and other outlets. She holds a PhD in Environment and Resources from Stanford University and a Master’s of Science in Engineering and Certificate in Global Health from the University of Washington.

Research Asst-Graduate-Hourly, Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability - Dean's OfficeBioRwaida Gharib is a PhD candidate at Stanford's Doerr School of Sustainability and an MSx candidate at the Graduate School of Business. She studies climate displacement and the protection and resource allocation for frontline communities. Her field research spans across East Africa, Central America, and wildfire-affected communities in California, tracing how narrative, policy, and capital shape institutional support.
She is a Climate and Environmental Justice Fellow at the Center for Just Environmental Futures, a King Center Global Development Scholar, and has contributed to adaptation finance research at Stanford's Sustainable Finance Institute and the GSB's Ecopreneurship Program. -

BioWorking with the Precourt Institute's small communications team, my principal responsibility is to inform the public about energy research and education at Stanford through articles, press releases, social media, Stanford Energy newsletter, printed materials and presentations. I also aid reporters writing about energy. I began work at Stanford in 2011, when I joined the Precourt Institute's communications team as a writer.
Before coming to Stanford, I taught in the San Francisco public schools for several years. Previously, I was a reporter for Dow Jones & Co. for 10 years, primarily covering the U.S. natural gas and power industries. I also worked in Kiev, Ukraine in 1996-97, editing a weekly news magazine on that country's economic and political development. I also worked for Columbia University, writing on public health research. -

Gemma Guilera Ferre
Managing Director, Sustainability Accelerator
BioDr. Gemma Guilera is a chemist, an entrepreneur and an enabler of innovation. She currently serves as a Managing Director at the Sustainability Accelerator within the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability.
Prior to joining the Accelerator, Guilera was Senior Manager at Plug and Play tech Center, an innovation platform and early-stage startup investment firm in Silicon Valley. Specializing in sustainable materials and packaging, she facilitated relationships between corporations seeking innovative solutions and the dynamic startup network at Plug and Play. Earlier to this role, Guilera was co-founder and CEO of Moving Beans, a venture backed-up sustainable startup developing more environmentally friendly, home-compostable materials for consumer goods.
During her time in the UK, Guilera was part of the original team that implemented the human-centered, solution-led Accelerator for Cities at Connected Places Catapult, where she led the startup team. The team provided support to startups in their growth journey through strategic multi-stakeholder engagement and accelerator programs. She also developed and led the open call for one of the largest large-scale IoT demonstrators globally, now the EU standard for innovative open calls.
Prior to her work in innovation, Guilera built the X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy Beamline at ALBA Synchrotron (Spain), overseeing its construction and operation and conducting research in various areas such as catalysis and nanomaterials. Her career began as an industrial post-doc, followed by her role as a scientist at the ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility), where she worked in the field of heterogeneous catalysis and collaborated with Toyota to co-develop a three-way catalyst for petrol cars.
Gemma holds a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Barcelona, as well as an MSc in Supramolecular Chemistry and a PhD in Organometallic Chemistry from King’s College London. She was selected as one of the finalists in Women in Tech Global Awards 2021. -

Eric Hartge
Research Development Manager, Center for Ocean Solutions
BioEric Hartge joined the Stanford Center for Ocean Solutions as a research and curriculum development intern in November 2010 before becoming a research analyst in July 2011 and then the senior research analyst in November 2013. In the summer of 2015 he was promoted to Research Development Manager. He specializes in organizational management and project portfolio development.
Eric previously worked with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation as the Education Program Manager for Baltimore Harbor with a focus on the human impact on the water quality and fisheries of the Chesapeake Bay. This followed extensive experience in environmental education in the Leeward Islands, Mexico, Costa Rica and Hawai’i. He also gained enough sea time aboard research ships with the Sea Education Association to earn a USCG Near Coastal Master's and Ocean Mate's License.
Eric also engages in intermittent student coursework through designing, coordinating, and teaching courses such as Oceans By Design with the Stanford School of Design, Outlaw Ocean Policy Practicum with Stanford Law School, and the Blue Foods for Indonesia Action Lab with Stanford Law School and Stanford’s Human and Planetary Health Initiative. His current programmatic work includes the role of Project Manager for a Global Environment Facility International Waters Project on Strengthening and Enabling the Micronesia Challenge 2030.
Eric received his M.S. in environmental sciences and policy from Johns Hopkins University and his B.S. in marine biology from the College of Charleston. His professional and academic experience includes estuarine science, natural resource management, stakeholder engagement, project management, portfolio management, environmental education, decision analysis, data visualization, grant writing, project portfolio management and environmental education. Khoi Huynh

BioKhoi Huynh (he/him) is a program support associate with the Natural Capital Alliance and previously worked for Stanford's Department of Physics for many years. Born in Vietnam, he grew up in rural Michigan and earned his BA from Michigan State University. A birder since childhood, he is enthusiastic about environmental protection, sustainability and appreciation for the natural world. He's also a longtime musician, performing and recording with numerous bands, one of which is the house band for Lindsay Wildlife Experience's annual celebration of Lord Richard, the world's oldest turkey vulture.

Thomas Johnson

BioTom manages communications for two water-related programs within the Stanford Woods Insitute for the Environment: Water in the West; and Water, Health & Development. Prior to coming to Stanford in 2022, Tom managed a graduate program at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo that prepared students for careers in the dairy foods industry. A seasoned communications professional, he once served as business editor at The Coloradoan, a Gannett daily newspaper, and was editor of Outlook Magazine, a publication of Colorado State University's College of Natural Sciences. Tom earned a Master's degree in Watershed Science from Colorado State University and was the founding director of the Colorado Springs-based Fountain Creek Watershed Project, an intergovernmental task force that won consensus buy-in for a plan that guides management of the Pikes Peak watershed. Tom is also an award-winning cheesemaker and musician.

Joyce Lee

BioKatherine Li is a Sustainability Technology & Business Analyst at the Stanford Sustainability Accelerator, where she supports Stanford-led research teams in externalizing their innovations to create sustainability impact. She holds an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from Stanford and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Duke University, where she was a Pratt Research Fellow and NAE Grand Challenge Scholar.
Katherine previously worked in the Intellectual Property Office at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, supporting the commercialization of energy and physical sciences technologies. Her research background spans water affordability, environmental pollution, and uncertainty modeling, with work conducted at Stanford, Duke, and Memorial University of Newfoundland. She has co-authored peer-reviewed publications and received multiple honors, including the Eric Pas Award for Outstanding Research from Duke, the NSERC Undergraduate Research Award, and the Stanford Digital Learning Design Challenge. She is also passionate about climate and science communication and has led youth-focused climate storytelling and education initiatives. -

Mike Lin is an investor, engineer, and serial entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in design thinking, startups, and venture capital. Mike is a Lecturer at Stanford's Doerr School of Sustainability, where he teaches SUST 234: Integrative Design and Entrepreneurship for Sustainability.
Mike is also co-founder and General Partner at Dangerous Ventures. Dangerous invests in early-stage startups building a more sustainable and resilient future. Dangerous focuses on scalable systems-transforming solutions that empower people, the planet, and society to be more resilient and thrive in a rapidly changing environment.
Prior to working in venture capital, he was Founder and CEO of Fenix International, a renewable energy and fintech startup that currently powers over 15.5 million people across nine countries. He raised over $45M in venture capital and venture debt, developed patented energy technologies, and forged strategic partnerships with Google and the world’s largest mobile telecoms, including Vodafone, Orange, and MTN, to deliver life-changing energy to frontier markets. Fenix grew to over 350 employees and was successfully acquired in April 2018 by Engie, one of the world’s largest utilities.
Mike believes that business can be a vehicle for positive change, combining his passion for social and environmental prosperity with design thinking, business strategy, and new product development. He is a serial entrepreneur and worked at Makani Power (acquired by Google) and Squid Labs, a startup studio (Instructables, acquired by Autodesk). He has worked with Apple on climate change and environmental technologies, Al Gore on the “Inconvenient Truth” presentation, and lectured on green design and entrepreneurship at Stanford and Yale.
Mike has six patents, has received over $1.7M in grants from the US Environmental Protection Agency and UK Government, awards from the Rockefeller Foundation, Aspen Institute, BusinessWeek, and Popular Science, and has been featured in The New York Times, Bloomberg, Forbes, Wired, The Guardian, and others. Mike earned an MS and BS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.
He is an Eagle Scout, a champion Junior Olympic Archer, and co-founder of the Stanford University Archery team. He enjoys spending time with his family outdoors, mountain biking, growing food, and cooking over an open fire. -

BioMarisa MacAskill is the Director of Finance & Operations for the department of Environmental Social Sciences (ESoS) at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability (SDSS). Marisa joined the SDSS in June 2023 as the Assistant Director of Finance & Operations of the, then, Social Sciences Division. Previously she served as the Program Manager for Finance & Research Administration and Faculty & Academic Affairs for Stanford's Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI), where she also held the role as HAI's inaugural Education Program Manager. Marisa started her career at Stanford in 2017 as the Fellowships and Student Programs Manager for the Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI) where she delivered academic programming, managed admissions, and supported research and learning opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. Leslie Magoon
Adjunct Professor, Earth & Planetary Sciences
BioLes is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Basin and Petroleum System Modeling, a Stanford University Industrial affiliate program that he was one of the three co-originators in 2005. He graduated from the University of Oregon, Eugene, OR with a B.S. in biology in 1964 and a M.S. in Geology in 1966. He worked 8 years for Shell Oil Company in Exploration where he was the lead investigator in the Ventura-Santa Barbara Basin source rock and migration study, the first investigation of its type in exploration for this company. Les worked 30 years for the U.S. Geological Survey where he carried out resource assessment studies in Alaska, Colombia, Venezuela, and Canada. The Alaska studies included the Cook Inlet and North Slope. Since 1981, he has investigated and popularized the petroleum system through talks, courses, and AAPG Memoir 60, The Petroleum System—From Source to Trap, for which he and his co-editor received the R. H. Dott, Sr. Award in 1996. Published in 1994, this popular book was reprinted twice and sold out all 4,000 copies and is now only available in CD. In 2017, he received AAPG Honorary Member Award and in 2021 the AAPG Sidney Powers Memorial Award, the society's third highest and highest award, respectively.
