    Lia Talozzi

    BioDr. Talozzi aims to contribute to the definition of quantitative biomarkers for neurological pathologies. She has a physics background, and a master's in applied physics. She graduated with honors from Bologna University, where she pursued her Ph.D. in Biomedical and Neuromotor Sciences. During her doctoral studies, she worked primarily with magnetic resonance imaging, majoring in tractography methods, for which she was awarded a scholarship at the Neuroanatomy and Tractography Laboratory, King's College London. Subsequently, she exploited dimensionality reduction techniques for associating white matter damage with clinical symptoms within the Bordeaux University Disconnectome ERC grant. Currently, she expanded her research horizons to genetic investigations by joining the Greicius Lab. She aims to develop novel strategies for modeling risk scores for Alzheimer's pathology using long read sequencing methodologies.

    Suzanne Tamang

    Assistant Professor of Medicine (Immunology and Rheumatology)

    BioDr. Suzanne Tamang an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Immunology and Rheumatology and a Faculty Fellow at the Stanford Center for Population Health Sciences. She is also the Computation Systems Evaluation Lead at the VA Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention's Program Evaluation Resource Center. Dr. Tamang uses her training in biology, computer science, health services research and biomedical informatics to work with interdisciplinary teams of experts on population health problems of public interest. Integral to her research, is the analysis of large and complex population-based datasets, using techniques from natural language processing, machine learning and deep learning. Her expertise spans US and Danish population-based registries, Electronic Medical Records from various vendors, administrative healthcare claims and other types of observational health and demographic data sources in the US and internationally; also, constructing, populating and applying knowledge-bases for automated reasoning. Dr. Tamang has developed open-source tools for the extraction of health information from unstructured free-text clinical progress notes and licensed machine learning prediction models to Silicon Valley health analytics startups. She is the faculty mentor for the Stanford community working group Stats for Social Good.

  • Kabir Tambar

    Kabir Tambar

    Associate Professor of Anthropology

    BioKabir Tambar has been conducting ethnographic and historical research in Turkey since 2003, primarily focused on the critical study of secularism and semiotic approaches in anthropology. His work centers on questions of temporality in political modernity, or the narrative threads that bind our sense of the present to both an inherited past and an anticipated future.

    Tambar’s first book, The Reckoning of Pluralism (Stanford, 2014), explored how Alevis in central Anatolia encounter and interrogate the promises of secular modernity. The book offered a critical study of how state authorities (along with academics, journalists, and intellectuals) seek to define and discipline the parameters of religious difference, such that ostensibly epistemological questions about the writing of history have come to shape governing imperatives to regiment public enactments of Alevi religion. The book is also especially interested to reveal how Alevi engagements with Islamic tradition, including in practices of ritual mourning, enable alternative ways of narrating the religious past and its inheritance in the present.

    After completing this research project, Tambar began to study inter-communal expressions of solidarity. Initially, the work developed in response to the massive, country-wide Gezi Park protests, with particular attention to the tensions and misunderstandings that accompany the emergence of new political friendships. From this starting point, Tambar began a decade-long inquiry into the history of irresolute and foiled friendships that have unsteadied the politics of the nation-state for over a century. He is now completing a new book manuscript, tentatively titled After Friendship: An Ottoman History of Disaffection, that examines the erosion of friendship as a credible discourse of late Ottoman and Turkish republican politics in the past century. Rather than redeem friendship as a normative ground for understanding political possibilities today, the book excavates the failing of friendship as a historical problem, asking how social actors — especially Armenians, Greeks, and Kurds — have grappled with the attenuation of solidarity and the estrangement of political identification.

    BioThierry Tambe is an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and, by courtesy, of Computer Science, and the William George and Ida Mary Hoover Faculty Fellow at Stanford University. His research interests include efficient hardware and software co-design techniques for domain-specific silicon systems for emerging AI and data-intensive applications. He also bears a keen interest in agile chip development methodologies. Previously, Thierry was a visiting research scientist at NVIDIA and an engineer at Intel. He received a B.S., and M.Eng. from Texas A&M University, and a PhD from Harvard University, all in Electrical Engineering. His research has been recognized through a NVIDIA Graduate PhD Fellowship, an IEEE SSCS Predoctoral Achievement Award, and distinguished paper awards at ASPLOS and DAC.
