    BioDr. Bryan Lanzman completed his medical degree and radiology residency at Columbia University Medical Center, before coming to Stanford University for a 2-year Neuroradiology fellowship. He joined the faculty at Stanford in 2017 and is actively involved in medical student and resident education, as well as quality improvement efforts within the neuroradiology section. He also serves as a co-director of the Neuroradiology clerkship for medical students, and for the Neuroradiology elective for neurology residents.

    BioDavid B. Larson, MD, MBA, is Professor of Radiology (Pediatric Radiology) and Executive Vice Chair in the Department of Radiology at Stanford University. He also serves as the Associate Chief Quality Officer for Improvement for Stanford Health Care, overseeing improvement training programs at SHC. Dr. Larson is a national thought leader in radiology quality improvement and patient safety, and a regular speaker regarding topics ranging from pediatric CT radiation dose optimization to radiology peer learning. He is the founder of Stanford’s Realizing Improvement through Team Empowerment (RITE) program and co-founder of the Clinical Effectiveness Leadership Training (CELT) program, continuing to serve as co-executive director of both programs. He also founded and leads the Stanford Medicine Improvement Capability Development Program (ICDP) and the Advanced Course in Improvement Science (ACIS).

    Dr. Larson is the founder and program chair for the annual Radiology Improvement Summit held annually at Stanford, which began in 2015. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the American Board of Radiology, overseeing quality and safety, and on the Board of Chancellors for the American College of Radiology as the chair of the ACR's Commission on Quality and Safety. He also founded and leads the ACR Learning Network, which was launched in 2021.

    Prior to his position at Stanford, Dr. Larson was the Janet L. Strife Chair for Quality and Safety in Radiology and a faculty member of the James M. Anderson Center for Health Systems Excellence at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He holds MD and MBA degrees from Yale University and completed his training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Larson is a pediatric radiologist at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. He and his wife, Tara, live in Portola Valley, California and have four children.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy lab's research involves the function, degeneration and repair of musculoskeletal soft tissues, with a focus on meniscal fibrocartilage and articular cartilage. We are particularly interested in the complex interactions between biophysical and biochemical cues in controlling cell behavior, the roles of these interactions in degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis, and development of tissue engineered 3D model systems for studying physical influences on primary and progenitor cells.

    BioCongyu Liao is an Instructor in the Division of Radiological Sciences Laboratory (RSL). Dr. Liao received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Zhejiang University in China in 2018. Following the completion of his PhD, he was appointed Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University under Kawin Setsompop, PhD, where his research was focused on improving the efficiency of data acquisition/reconstruction in MRI. In 2021, he came to Stanford to join Dr. Setsompop’s lab as a Postdoctoral Scholar in RSL where his research is focused on developing new technology for diffusion and quantitative MRI. Dr. Liao has received many awards including the Summa Cum Laude Merit Award from the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and the Outstanding Research Award from the Overseas Chinese Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.

    BioDr. Margaret Lin is a board certified radiologist with subspecialty training in thoracic and cardiovascular imaging. Dr. Lin specializes in diseases affecting the lungs and airways, including cancer, infection, and interstitial and inhalational lung diseases. Dr. Lin has a passion for resident education and development of curricula and new educational tools. She is the current Program Director for the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsDr. Lipson's research interests include breast density and breast cancer risk assessment; informatics applications in breast imaging; early breast cancer detection and extent of disease evaluation using contrast enhanced mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis, and high resolution breast MRI; novel blood and imaging biomarkers of breast cancer burden and neoadjuvant treatment response; and image-guided wireless localization techniques for breast surgery.

    Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy lab focuses on expanding the capability of MR and PET/MR as it relates to applications in body imaging. Clinical research aims include the application of new or improved MR sequences to increase the speed, robustness, and diagnostic capability of body MR. Translation research aims include exploring new MR contrast mechanisms and contrast agents, such as for the stratification of cancer within the prostate and the evaluation of the lymphatic system.

  • Abdelkader Mahammedi

    Abdelkader Mahammedi

    Clinical Assistant Professor, Radiology

    BioDr. Abdelkader Mahammedi is Assistant Professor of Neuroradiology at the Department of Radiology, Stanford University School of Medicine. He completed medical school at the University of Algiers in Algeria, and then continued a postdoctoral research fellowship in Diagnostic Radiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital under the mentorship of Dr. Stanley Siegelman. Prior to becoming a specialist neuroradiologist, Dr. Mahammedi completed a Neuroradiology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Imaging Institute after having completed residencies in both Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology. His specialty interests include brain tumors, stroke, small vessel disease, head and neck imaging, and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Dr. Mahammedi has contributed to over 30 peer-reviewed publications, including lead authoring multiple articles in high-impact journals. During the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, he led and collaborated with multiple institutions from Italy, Spain, and Brazil. His work was considered the first and largest study in the literature that systematically characterized neurological symptoms and neuroimaging features in hospitalized COVID-19 patients, which was published in the journal Radiology. Recently, he has published the most recent multicenter and global COVID-19-related articles, which were featured by the international media in more than 25 languages including 200 newspapers, CNN, BBC, NPR, local televised broadcasts, and the 2020 RSNA Press Release. He co-authored multiple books, including “Imaging Appearance of Migraine and Tension Type Headache” and "Humanizing BrainTumors: Strategies for You and Your Physician" which was published in 2022. Dr. Mahammedi has received numerous awards and honors, including being selected as a semi-finalist for the prestigious Cornelius Dyke Award of the American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR) 2021, and Best Case Award at the American Institute of Radiologic Pathology (AIRP) in Neuroradiology. In 2014, he was recognized as one of the authors with top-cited articles for his work in the Journal of Thoracic Imaging at the Society of Thoracic Imaging (STR) meeting, where he introduced a new technique for early detection of pulmonary hypertension on CT scans.
