Humza Thobani
Postdoctoral Scholar, Pediatric Surgery
BioHumza is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Division of Pediatric Surgery at Stanford University. He earned his medical degree from the Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan in 2023. Prior to joining Stanford, he had completed a dedicated research fellowship in pediatric surgery, also at the Aga Khan University, where he was named Best Research Fellow in 2024.
Humza's research interests revolve around congenital surgical anomalies, pediatric solid tumors, and pediatric inflammatory bowel diseases, with a focus on leveraging big data and machine learning methods to study rare pediatric conditions. -
Imran Thobani
Postdoctoral Scholar, Ophthalmology
BioDr. Imran Thobani is a postdoctoral scholar in Ophthalmology co-advised by Dan Yamins and Andreas Tolias as part of the Enigma project. He is interested in building large-scale predictive models of the brain that he thinks will be useful for both scientific insights and downstream biomedical applications. He did his PhD at Stanford, where he was trained in both philosophy of neuroscience and computational neuroscience, applying this training to develop better methods for comparing artificial neural network models to the brain.

Jakob Thumm
Postdoctoral Scholar, Aeronautics and Astronautics
BioJakob is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics. His research aims to improve the safety, efficiency, and acceptance of autonomous robots by combining formal methods and machine learning. Jakob focuses on developing algorithms that enable robots to efficiently act in dynamic environments while guaranteeing safety at all times. He is particularly interested in allowing robots to safely work together with humans.
Prior to joining Stanford, Jakob earned his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the Technical University of Munich. His doctoral thesis is titled ``Establishing Safe and Preference-Aligned Human-Robot Collaboration in Autonomous Manipulation'' and passed with highest distinctions. Jakob received his M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Mechatronics from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, researching the intersection of system modelling and machine learning.
Outside the lab, Jakob is a passionate runner and volunteer at Sutro Stewards, where he maintains hiking trails in the heart of San Francisco. -
Aube Tollu
Postdoctoral Scholar, Sociology
BioDr. Aube Tollu is currently working on a new book on childhood, affect and war-making.
Aube works on armed movements in Europe and elsewhere, focusing on micro and intimate dynamics of relationalities in violent environments.
In addition to their PhD from Lund University, they hold a Mphil in Criminology from the University of Cambridge, a MSc in African Studies from the University of Oxford, a Bachelor with honors in European Studies (and War Studies) from King's College London and Sciences Po Paris. Previous to their postdoctoral appointment as a Wallenberg Scholar at the University of Stanford Ethnography Lab, they have been a visiting scholar at the University of Stanford and at the University of Cambridge's Institute of Criminology.
Aube is a reviewer for Taylor and Francis' Critical Studies in Terrorism.
