BioAs the Director of Communications for Stanford Surgery, Rachel Baker tells the stories of her department's faculty, staff, and trainees.
With the help of an amazing team of content creators, she produces and curates original articles, photos, videos, graphics, and even podcasts.She works personally with each division, center, program, and lab within her purview to define their audience and reach their goals while maintaining a consistent brand voice.
She hosts quarterly professional development workshops open to all AEM web authors--please email her if you'd like to join! She also offers both 1:1 and group education to faculty and residents on a variety of topics including media training, using social media to advantage, and presentation refinement.
Rachel holds a Bachelor's degree in journalism with a focus on photography from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. A transplant from the DC-area, she still misses foliage and argyle but has happily adopted the official NorCal hobbies of visiting wineries, hiking local trails, and eating avocado. -

Rimvydas Baltaduonis
Project Scientist, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory
BioRimvydas Baltaduonis, Ph.D., - Rim - works as a Project Scientist with the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory’s GISMo team at Stanford University. He is also an Associate Professor in the Economics Department at Gettysburg College and co-directs Gettysburg Lab for Experimental Economics (GLEE). While being a longtime affiliate of the Institute for Regulatory Law & Economics (IRLE), Dr. Baltaduonis also worked as a Visiting Senior Research Scholar at Columbia’s Center on Global Energy Policy (CGEP) during 2019-2020 academic year and a Visiting Senior Scholar at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) from 2015 to 2017. Baltaduonis' broad areas of research interest are industrial organization, energy and environmental economics, energy security, experimental and behavioral economics. His current research focuses on the design and behavior of electric power markets. He also conducts workshops on laboratory economics experiments designed to inform energy policy. At Gettysburg College, he taught Industrial Organization, Energy & Security, Energy Economics and Experimental Economics. The National Science Foundation, the International Foundation for Research in Experimental Economics (IFREE) and the Australian Research Council have supported his research. Prior to assuming his faculty position at Gettysburg College, Baltaduonis was an IFREE Visiting Post-doctoral Fellow in the Interdisciplinary Center for Economic Science at George Mason University and later at the Economics Science Institute at Chapman University. He earned his PhD and MA in Economics from the University of Connecticut and a BSc in Economics from Vilnius University in Lithuania.

Shalmali Bane
Research Assistant, Pediatrics - Neonatology
BioShalmali Bane is doctoral student in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health. She is a trainee with the Center for Population Health Sciences, in the Stanford School of Medicine. She works with Dr. Suzan Carmichael on examining social determinants of reproductive health and perinatal outcomes. Shalmali grew up in India and received a biology degree from Stanford, with a focus in Neurobiology. Prior to graduate school, she was a healthcare consultant with the Analysis Group, where she focused on survey research, literature reviews, and budget impact modelling. She is passionate about equity and inclusion initiatives and serves on her departmental JEDI committee. She hopes to meld all of these experiences together in her current work: applying rigorous epidemiological methods to study how factors like socially determined race/ethnicity and socio-economic position impact the experiences of birthing persons.
