Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and, by courtesy, of Computer Science
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research focus is to develop technology that improves everyday life by anticipating and acting on the needs of human counterparts. My research can be divided into the following sub-categories: robotic assistants, connected devices and intelligent wearables. My Assistive Robotics and Manipulation lab focuses heavily on both the analytical and experimental components of assistive technology design.

Mohi Khansari
Sr. Research Engineer & Director of Embodied AI at Stanford Robotics Center, Computer Science
BioMohi Khansari is the Director of Embodied AI at the Stanford Robotics Center and a Senior Research Engineer in Computer Science at Stanford University. He leads the Center's Manufacturing and Logistics initiative and helps develop core embodied AI technologies to advance robotics research across the Center. His research focuses on robot learning and embodied intelligence, particularly integrating learned robotic skills, world models, and high-level reasoning to enable reliable and adaptable autonomous systems in complex physical environments.
Prior to his current role at Stanford, Mohi served as Head of Robot Learning at 1X, where he was chief architect of Redwood AI and led work on vision-language-action models, world models, and humanoid robot learning. Previously, he architected learning-based planning and control systems deployed at Cruise and founded and led the end-to-end imitation learning effort at Alphabet's Everyday Robots. Across these roles, his work has bridged fundamental robotics research and the development and deployment of large-scale learning-based robotic systems.
Mohi received his Ph.D. from EPFL and conducted postdoctoral research at the Stanford Robotics Lab.
