Margaret Shyu
Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine
BioMargaret Shyu is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine within the Stanford School of Medicine. She is a Bay Area local and completed her undergraduate degrees in Molecular & Cell Biology and Economics at UC Berkeley. She then went on to receive her MD from Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine and complete her residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC where she was part of the Healthcare Leadership Track. She helped created the Career Hospitalist Advisement and Mentorship Program (CHAMP) at Mount Sinai, a longitudinal program to mentor internal medicine residents interested in hospital medicine, after seeing a need for it after applying for jobs on her own. CHAMP went on to win the SHM Converge Scientific Abstract Competition (2024) and be featured in The Hospitalist (2025).
After working in NYC during the COVID-19 pandemic, she realized her interest in helping medically complex patients make difficult decisions and has found fulfillment in her work at Stanford caring for patients who have cancer. Some of her passions include clinical research, particularly that relating to workforce and operations, cost of care, and topics crossing multiple subspecialties.
