Daniel Tahan

BioDaniel is a visiting researcher in the Division of Pediatric Surgery at Stanford University. He is in the process of completing his medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine, where he co-founded a student-run clinic for refugee and MENA communities and participates in the DeBakey Scholars Program.
His ongoing research focus involves the study of congenital lung malformations in children, where he is currently exploring the continuum from prenatal diagnosis to long-term postnatal outcomes. A few of his other academic interests include global surgery, surgical education, and surgical disparities research. -
Niloofar Taheri

BioDr. Niloofar Taheri is a postdoctoral researcher (MD, Inv) in the Mignot Lab at Stanford University, where she conducts research in sleep medicine and neuroimmunology. Her work has been recognized with Gold Medals at international invention competitions, including the IFIA Members’ Competition for developing a novel diagnostic and therapeutic approach to neurodegenerative disorders, and the 2025 American Innovation Exhibition (AIIE) in San Diego, where she received a Gold Medal and Special Prize for designing a medication to improve the treatment of brain metastases in breast cancer. Most recently, she won a Gold Medal at the 2025 Kaohsiung International Invention & Design Expo (KIDE), for a patent on a novel diagnostic method for the early detection of major depressive disorder (MDD).
She brings experience in clinical practice, co-founding an autoimmune society, and developing wet-lab models. She is also a verified peer reviewer for psychiatry and neuroscience journals. -
Megumi E. Takada

BioMegumi Takada is a doctoral candidate in the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University. Her research centers around children’s literacy experiences in the elementary school years, with a special interest in designing literacy instruction that promotes student agency and school belonging. Her most recent work focuses on translingual and multimodal writing, working with elementary school teachers to co-design writing instruction that leverages multilingual students' everyday language and literacy practices. Her work is driven by her former experience as a public school teacher in South Korea and Seattle, as well as her transnational, translingual experiences growing up cross-culturally in California and Japan. She is a recipient of the Fulbright teaching fellowship and graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in neuroscience and elementary teaching credentials.

Sho Takatori
Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering
BioPeople say that a picture is worth a thousand words. We think that an equation is worth a thousand pictures. Literally. By collecting and processing data-rich images of complex fluids and matter, we develop “picture-perfect” equations to learn structure-property relationships for new material innovation.
In the Takatori lab, we combine theory, simulation, and experiment to discover mathematical models for complex fluids in engineered and natural environments. We use advanced microscopy and analyze pictures with data-driven methods to understand material properties that bridge the microscopic-to-continuum scales. Our research encompasses soft squishy materials like polymers and liquid crystals, as well as granular matter like sand, powders, and foams.
Outside of research, I have had a strong passion for public speaking since high school, taking speech courses in college and competing in speech contests in Toastmasters International (a professional organization to improve public speaking and leadership skills) for several years as a PhD student. More recently, as a professor and educator, I have channeled my passion for speaking towards science education and technical communication. I have always believed that effective science communication can make broad impacts to society by building public trust in science, promoting data-driven decisions in government and industry, and improving the accessibility of science to all communities. I look forward to continue working on effective science communication skills and storytelling techniques with Stanford graduate students and researchers. -

I’m currently taking a leading role in a multicenter, longitudinal NIH‑funded study with Stanford University’s Department of Anesthesiology—aimed at improving maternal outcomes. In addition, I lead multiple international research studies in maternal care, with research experience both in the United Kingdom and the United States, giving me valuable cross‑system insights.

BioAiko Takeuchi (Ph.D., Brown University) is the Liu-Dang Lecturer in Undergraduate Teaching in the School of Humanities & Sciences. She guides the senior capstone projects in the Program in International Relations and also teaches in the Civic, Liberal, Global Education (COLLEGE) Program. She is the author of Contraceptive Diplomacy: Reproductive Politics and Imperial Ambitions in the United States and Japan (Stanford University Press, 2018), which received a John Whitney Hall Book Prize from the Association for Asian Studies.

Tadashi Takeuchi
Postdoctoral Scholar, Microbiology and Immunology
BioDr. Tadashi Takeuchi is a physician-scientist and postdoctoral scholar in the Sonnenburg Laboratory at Stanford University. He earned his MD and PhD from Keio University, Japan, and completed his residency training in internal medicine and his diabetology fellowship at St. Luke’s International Hospital, Japan. Throughout his training, he has studied host–microbe interactions in the intestine with a focus on the influence of dietary nutrients. His PhD studies with Hiroshi Ohno, MD, PhD, at RIKEN IMS, Japan, focused on the impact of dietary short-chain fatty acids on intestinal immunity, culminating in a first-author publication in Nature. Leveraging his expertise in diabetology, he also investigated host–microbe interactions in metabolic disease during his PhD, ranging from mechanistic studies to human multi-omics, resulting in multiple first-author publications in Nature and Cell Metabolism. At Stanford, Dr. Takeuchi integrates clinical training, immunology, computational multi-omics, and bacterial genetics to develop strategies that establish robust, diet-guided colonization by therapeutic commensals. His long-term goal is to translate these insights into microbiome-based interventions for human diseases. His work has been recognized with the NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independent Award and Stanford School of Medicine Dean’s Postdoctoral Fellowship, among multiple early-career awards.
