Murilo Guedes

Fellow in Medicine - Med/NephrologyBioMurilo Guedes, MD, PhD, is a Fellow in Medicine within the Department of Nephrology and part of the Translational Investigator Program (TIP) within the Department of Medicine at Stanford.
Dr. Guedes’s research is dedicated to improving the lives of patients with chronic kidney disease. His work draws on clinical epidemiology, international patient cohorts, and clinical trials to identify opportunities to improve care across the spectrum of kidney disease. A central focus is understanding how anemia and iron deficiency relate to cardiovascular outcomes, survival, physical function, and quality of life, including the implications of iron deficiency beyond anemia.
His research also examines how dialysis treatments and differences in clinical practice relate to patients’ health and daily experiences, with particular attention to fatigue, physical activity, and recovery after dialysis. His broader work explores gaps in kidney disease detection, risk assessment, and treatment. Across these efforts, he aims to translate clinical evidence into practical strategies that reduce the burden of kidney disease and help patients live longer, healthier lives. -
Ruwan Gunaratne

BioRuwan Gunaratne, MD, PhD is an Instructor in Hematology at Stanford University School of Medicine and a board-certified hematologist-oncologist with a clinical focus on acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). His clinical and translational research centers on improving disease monitoring in myeloid cancers using personalized circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) profiling, a blood-based approach designed to more sensitively track measurable residual disease (MRD), assess treatment response, refine risk stratification, and detect relapse earlier across the myeloid disease spectrum. Dr. Gunaratne’s work has been recognized with awards from the American Society of Hematology and the Stanford Cancer Institute, and he is actively committed to advancing precision medicine approaches for patients with myeloid malignancies.

Mengni Guo
Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine - Oncology
BioDr. Mengni Guo is a medical oncologist in the Division of Oncology at Stanford University School of Medicine and a member of the Stanford Breast Cancer Program. She specializes in the care of patients with breast cancer, from active treatment through long-term survivorship. Dr. Guo emphasizes an individualized, team-based approach, working closely with patients and multidisciplinary specialists to develop treatment plans that reflect each patient’s clinical needs, personal values, and long-term quality of life.
Dr. Guo’s research focuses on breast cancer survivorship, particularly metabolic health during and after cancer treatment and the prevention and management of long-term treatment effects. She also uses large real-world datasets to study breast cancer treatment patterns and outcomes and to identify strategies to improve long-term health after cancer therapy. Her research has been presented at national meetings, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting.
