Current Research and Scholarly InterestsI am co-mentored by Dr. Angela Rogers and Dr. Purvesh Khatri. My research focuses on leveraging machine learning on multi-omic data to evaluate the immune response in critical illness. It is striking that despite many years of studying infections, we still treat patients with severe infections the same as we did 30 years ago, with antimicrobials, fluids, and supportive care. The goal of my research is to bring the ideals of precision medicine to critical care. In particular, I am working to better quantify how the immune system responds to infections with the goal of being able to "read" the immune system and treat patients with the medications they need to successfully recover.

Frances Moore

BioFrances C. Moore finished her PhD in 2015. Her research focuses on understanding the rate and effectiveness of adaptation by farmers in order to understand the impact of climate change on future agricultural production and food security. She combines statistical and mathematical modeling with agricultural data and climate model output in order to better understand how farmers will respond to a changing climate, drawing heavily on economics and econometric methods.
Before Stanford, Fran obtained a Masters in Environmental Science at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies where her research focussed on the construction of adaptation policy in the international negotiations. She observed and participated in several of the UNFCCC meetings, culminating in COP15 in Copenhagen.
Fran has also published several articles on the mitigation potential of short-lived greenhouse gases in developing countries and is the co-editor of Sudden and Disruptive Climate Change: Exploring the Real Risks and How We Can Avoid Them. Fran is a Stanford Interdisciplinary Graduate Fellow and a former Switzer Foundation Fellow and National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. She also holds a B.A., summa cum laude, in Earth and Planetary Science from Harvard University.
