Brian Anthony Nuyen, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor, Otolaryngology (Head and Neck Surgery)
BioBrian Nuyen, MD, is a board-certified otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeon and fellowship trained laryngologist who developed a keen interest and passion for head and neck gender affirmation for transgender/gender-nonconforming communities during his residency at Stanford Medicine. He completed his James Thomas, MD Voice Surgery Fellowship 2021-2022 in Portland, Oregon subspecializing in gender-affirming voice medicine and surgery. He was a visiting Fellow in Summer 2022 with Dr. Hyung-Tae Kim at the Yeson Voice Center in Seoul, South Korea with a focus on international perspectives on gender-affirming endoscopic vocal surgical innovation. Dr. Nuyen is a clinical assistant professor with the Stanford School of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology.
Dr. Nuyen specializes in managing vocal fold disorders, with a particular interest in gender affirmation voice surgery. Dr. Nuyen completed two fellowship programs focused on gender affirmation voice surgery.
He obtained his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Nuyen completed his residency at Stanford School of Medicine’s Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr. Nuyen is a prolific author and researcher in his field. Multiple peer-reviewed journals have published his work and he has authored several textbook chapters. His recent articles focus on gender affirmation voice surgery. He also peer-reviews research manuscripts for the Journal of Voice. He has presented his insights and research at various medical conferences.
Dr. Nuyen speaks Spanish fluently. In his free time, he is an avid instrumental musician, singer, and swing dancer. -

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur group explores neuroengineering and its application to both basic and clinical neuroscience. Our goal is to develop brain-machine interfaces as a platform technology for a variety of brain-related medical conditions including stroke and epilepsy.

Pablo Nuñez Martinez
Masters Student in Aeronautics and Astronautics, admitted Autumn 2025
BioPablo Nuñez Martínez is a first-year M.S. student in Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University. He earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey, where he graduated with academic honors and founded ELYOS Racing Team, a student initiative dedicated to designing ultra-efficient vehicles. Under his leadership, ELYOS raised over $100,000 USD in sponsorships, placed 4th at the Shell Eco-marathon Americas in both 2024 and 2025, and achieved major aerodynamic and structural advances through CFD-driven optimization and composite lightweighting. He also contributed to McGill Formula Electric in Montréal, where he worked on aerodynamics and chassis design, developing composite monocoque concepts, CFD-based downforce devices, and optimization codes for laminate theory using genetic algorithms.
Pablo’s academic and research interests include aerodynamics, lightweight structures, advanced composite materials, and spacecraft systems. He is particularly interested in the development of next-generation aerospace vehicles that integrate aerodynamic efficiency, adaptability, and sustainability. His long-term goal is to contribute to the design of innovative space systems and sustainable technologies that push the boundaries of aerospace engineering. -
Peter Nonso Nwokoye
MD Student with Scholarly Concentration in Bioengineering, expected graduation Spring 2027
BioPeter Nonso Nwokoye was born and raised in Nigeria and graduated summa cum laude with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry and Biology from Barry University. During his undergraduate studies, he worked on the synthesis of selective muscarinic receptor agonists and antagonists. In 2021, he was awarded the prestigious Gates Cambridge Scholarship to study at King's College, University of Cambridge. There, under the mentorship of Professor Anthony Davenport, he researched the expression and signaling of the apelin receptor and its endogenous agonists, Elabela and Apelin, in glioblastoma stem cells. This experience sparked his interest in developing novel methods to deorphanize orphan Class A GPCRs. After several months of intensive computational research, Peter developed a complex, multi-layered bioinformatic tool that he has used to identify likely endogenous ligands of orphan GPCRs, focusing on peptide ligands found in annotated uncharacterized open reading frames in the human genome. In his free time, he enjoys soccer, running, meditating, and teaching. Peter is excited about pursuing a career as a physician-scientist.

Fridah Nyakundi
Ph.D. Student in Environment and Resources, admitted Autumn 2021
BioI am a Ph.D. candidate in Environment and Resources at Stanford University’s Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources (E-IPER). My research sits at the intersection of environmental and natural resource economics and land system science, applying remote sensing and economic methods to understand how natural resource use shapes livelihoods and ecosystems in low- and middle-income countries. Currently, my doctoral work focuses on the risks and decision-making strategies in aquaculture systems, with a case study on Nile Tilapia cage farming in Lake Victoria. While aquaculture is the subject of my current research, my broader interests span natural resource management (NRM) economics, agriculture and environmental economics, land system science, and food systems resilience. Before graduate school, I spent five years at the International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), supporting the design and execution of large-scale impact assessments and leading the setup of data systems for the Africa research team. I have been a fellow at Environment for Development (EfD) Kenya since 2017, contributing to applied water and resource economics research.
