Yunyun Wang
Postdoctoral Scholar, Cardiovascular Medicine
BioYunyun is a postdoctoral scholar in Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford. She received her PhD in Genetics from Zhejiang University in China (2025), where she studied the metabolic-epigenetic mechanisms of cardiovascular disease such as atherosclerosis and angiogenesis. In 2026, she joined the Quertermous Lab, where her research focuses on uncovering the mechanisms underlying atherosclerosis using Perturb-seq technology.

Katherine T. Ward, MD
Clinical Professor, Medicine - Primary Care and Population Health
BioDr. Ward is the Chief of the Geriatrics Section in the Department of Medicine, Division of Primary Care and Population Health at Stanford University School of Medicine, and a Clinical Professor of Medicine. In this leadership role, she supervises program leaders across outpatient, inpatient, and skilled nursing facility settings, bringing them together to provide longitudinal, coordinated care to older adults across the healthcare continuum.
Dr. Ward is a fellowship-trained geriatrician with Stanford in Palo Alto, California, and is board certified in geriatric medicine, hospice and palliative medicine, and internal medicine. Her clinical practice spans all care settings—outpatient clinics, hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities—with a focus on managing the critical transitions between them. She specializes in comprehensive care for older adults, including dementia care, palliative care, geriatric assessment, and best practices in nursing home care. Dr. Ward draws on her extensive experience to teach and implement evidence based models that support care for older adults. Dr. Ward's research interests include early detection of dementia in vulnerable populations, dementia care support programs, and geriatric assessment in diverse populations.
She has published her research in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society; The American Journal of Geriatric Pharmacotherapy; The Journal of Nutrition, Health & Aging; and the Journal of Palliative Medicine. She has served as an ad hoc reviewer for several journals, including Geriatrics, and has presented posters at annual meetings of the American Geriatrics Society and the Society of General Internal Medicine.
Dr. Ward is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Geriatrics Society. -
Erin Watson, PsyD, ABPP
Clinical Associate Professor, Medicine - Gastroenterology & Hepatology
BioErin Watson, PsyD, ABPP, is a board-certified clinical health psychologist and Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Stanford University School of Medicine. She specializes in helping people understand and manage the psychological, behavioral, and lifestyle factors that can affect their physical health. Her clinical interests include coping with chronic illness, managing stress and health-related anxiety, making sustainable health behavior changes, and using evidence-based mind-body and behavioral approaches to improve symptoms, functioning, and quality of life.
Dr. Watson has specialized in health psychology and behavioral medicine throughout her education, training, and career. She completed her doctoral training with an emphasis in Primary Care Psychology and Behavioral Medicine, followed by advanced training in health psychology and integrated medical care and a postdoctoral fellowship focused on infectious and liver diseases. Before joining Stanford, she spent more than a decade at the San Francisco VA and UCSF providing behavioral health care within medical settings, including primary care, chronic pain, liver and infectious disease, bariatric medicine, and outpatient health psychology.
At Stanford, Dr. Watson is part of GI & Liver Behavioral Medicine, where she works with adults living with digestive and liver conditions. Her work in psychogastroenterology addresses the important connections between the brain, behavior, and digestive system. She also has a particular interest in advancing psycho-hepatology, which brings health psychology and behavioral medicine into liver care. Her goal is to help patients develop practical skills for coping with illness, managing symptoms and stress, changing health behaviors, and living well alongside chronic medical conditions.
Dr. Watson is a dedicated clinician-educator with more than a decade of experience teaching and supervising psychology trainees and educating healthcare professionals across disciplines. Her current academic work includes research examining behavioral approaches to chronic pain and opioid use through a National Institutes of Health-funded study, as well as a recently funded Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) study evaluating behavioral interventions for people living with rare liver diseases. Across her clinical care, research, teaching, and program development, she works to advance the integration of psychological and behavioral science into medical care and improve the health and quality of life of people living with chronic disease. -
Annika M. Weber
Postdoctoral Scholar, Gastroenterology
BioAnnika is a postdoctoral scholar in the Spencer Lab studying how gut microbes metabolize prebiotic fibers to produce bioactive metabolites linked to lowering disease risk. She holds an MS in Human Nutrition from the University of Sheffield and a PhD in Food Science and Human Nutrition from Colorado State University. Her work integrates multi-omic approaches to map diet-microbe-metabolite relationships. Annika aims to translate these mechanistic insights into microbiome-informed dietary strategies for reducing chronic diseases.

Mike Tzuhen Wei
Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine - Gastroenterology & Hepatology
BioDr. Wei was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. He went to Stanford for his undergraduate studies in Biology and earned his medical degree at Weill Cornell Medical College. Unable to stay far from the Bay Area, he returned to Stanford where he completed his residency in internal medicine and subsequently his fellowship in gastroenterology. Dr. Wei has specific interests in colorectal cancer and Barrett’s esophagus surveillance as well as reflux diagnosis and management. He has an interest in endoscopic resection of large polyps and had received training under Dr. Shai Friedland, a world expert in this field. Dr. Wei work focuses on evaluating new tools, technologies and techniques in gastrointestinal cancer surveillance and management. He has been involved in running several trials in endoscopic management of polyps and evaluating artificial intelligence applications in gastroenterology. His work has been published in American Journal of Gastroenterology, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Clinical Endoscopy, VideoGIE, and Digestive Diseases and Sciences. He was formerly an Associate Editor for the ACG Case Report Journal (2020-2022) and was on the Board of the Northern California Society of Clinical Gastroenterology. When not in clinic or in endoscopy, Dr. Wei enjoys spending time with his family. He and his family enjoy traveling and exploring new restaurants.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsThe Weldy Lab studies how human genetic variation drives vascular dysfunction, inflammation, and cardiovascular disease. We integrate human genetics, epigenetics, single-cell genomics, RNA biology, and experimental models to define causal mechanisms and identify new therapeutic opportunities.
Led by Chad S. Weldy, MD, PhD, the lab focuses on questions at the intersection of cardiovascular genetics, vascular biology, and RNA-mediated regulation, with particular interest in smooth muscle cell phenotypic modulation, innate immune signaling, and mechanisms of disease susceptibility governed by epigenetic memory.
Our work is grounded in the idea that genetic discovery can do more than identify risk. It can reveal the biology that matters most and point toward more precise strategies for prevention and treatment.

Kirsti Weng Elder MD/MPH
Clinical Associate Professor, Medicine - Primary Care and Population Health
BioDr. Weng was the Section Chief of General Primary Care from 2020-2023. Dr..Weng has served in roles as Medical Director, and leader of care programs as well as improvement projects. She enjoys leading doctors and strives to inspire those around her to practice patient-centered care as well as physician self-care. She is a leader in organizational change and physician management. As a leader in primary care re-design, she is passionate about balancing the needs of the patient, provider and health care institution. She is an advocate of Mindfulness Self-compassion. Dr Weng is currently semi-retired. She works in the Express Care Clinic as a provider and does individual life and executive coaching.
Kirsti Weng Elder has over 35 years of experience caring for patients in primary care, urgent care and in the hospital. She is a teacher of students and residents. She practices with an emphasis on musculoskeletal care as she feels fitness is a foundation for wellness.
Kirsti supports community health and care for the underserved. Outside of work she enjoys biking, reading and spending time with her 8 children. She is on the board of the Valley Health Foundation. -
Wen-Kai Weng, MD, PhD

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research interest is on immunotherapy (including allogeneic transplant) of cancer. I have studies the mechanism of monoclonal antibody therapy in lymphoma patients and am currently working on designing new strategy to enhance the clinical efficacy of antibody therapy by infusing expanded NK cells. I am also interested in using tumor vaccine along with hematopoietic cell transplant.
