Ted Mau, MD, PhD
Professor of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery (OHNS)
BioDr. Ted Mau is a board-certified, fellowship-trained laryngologist with Stanford Health Care Ear, Nose, and Throat. He is also a professor in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery and chief of the Division of Laryngology at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Mau came to Stanford in 2025 following 17 years at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, where he was director of the Voice Center and vice chair of research for the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr. Mau’s clinical practice focuses on disorders of the voice, airway, and swallowing. He has particular interest in vocal fold and laryngeal lesions, voice problems, vocal fold paralysis, recurrent laryngeal nerve injuries, and laryngeal dystonia. He is an expert in microlaryngeal surgeries, including laser surgeries of the larynx and airway. He also has extensive experience with laryngeal framework surgery for the treatment of vocal fold paralysis, as well as in-office procedures for vocal fold and larynx lesions.
As a physician-scientist, Dr. Mau engages in clinical and laboratory research in voice science and voice disorders. He has served as principal investigator or co-investigator on several National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded projects, including computational voice simulation, development of ultrafast laser microlaryngeal surgery, sensory contributions to voice disorders, and central neuromodulation as a treatment for recurrent laryngeal nerve injuries. Dr. Mau was a site investigator for a DNA therapeutic vaccine clinical trial for recurrent respiratory papillomatosis. He has served on several NIH study sections.
Dr. Mau served as associate editor of laryngology for The Laryngoscope, a leading journal in the field of otolaryngology. He has published articles in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Voice, The Laryngoscope, and Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr. Mau is a fellow of the American Laryngological Association (ALA) and the Triological Society. He is also a member of the American Broncho-Esophagological Association and the secretary of the ALA Council. -
Meagan Mauter

BioProfessor Meagan Mauter is appointed as an Associate Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering and as a Center Fellow, by courtesy, in the Woods Institute for the Environment. She directs the Water and Energy Efficiency for the Environment Lab (WE3Lab) with the mission of providing sustainable water supply in a carbon-constrained world through innovation in water treatment technology, optimization of water management practices, and redesign of water policies. Ongoing research efforts include: 1) developing automated, precise, robust, intensified, modular, and electrified (A-PRIME) water desalination technologies to support a circular water economy, 2) identifying synergies and addressing barriers to coordinated operation of decarbonized water and energy systems, and 3) supporting the design and enforcement of water-energy policies.
Professor Mauter also serves as the research director for the National Alliance for Water Innovation, a $110-million DOE Energy-Water Desalination Hub addressing water security issues in the United States. The Hub targets early-stage research and development of energy-efficient and cost-competitive technologies for desalinating non-traditional source waters.
Professor Mauter holds bachelors degrees in Civil & Environmental Engineering and History from Rice University, a Masters of Environmental Engineering from Rice University, and a PhD in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from Yale University. Prior to joining the faculty at Stanford, she served as an Energy Technology Innovation Policy Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and the Mossavar Rahmani Center for Business and Government at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and as an Associate Professor of Engineering & Public Policy, Civil & Environmental Engineering, and Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. -
Gerald Mavko

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsResearch
I work to discover and understand the relationship between geophysical measurements and the rock and fluid properties that they sample in the Earth. My students and I have begun to understand the impact of rock type, porosity, pore fluids, temperature, and stress on seismic wave propagation and electromagnetic response. We are also working to quantify the links between geophysical measurements and the sedimentary and diagenetic processes that determine rock mineralogy and texture. Ultimately, this work allows us to better infer, from geophysical images, the composition and physical conditions at depth.
Teaching
I teach courses for graduate and undergraduate students on rock physics--the study of the physical properties of rocks and how they can be detected and mapped using seismic and electrical methods. This includes theory, laboratory measurements, and field data analysis. I also lead seminars in which students present and critique their ongoing research in rock physics.

Petros C. Mavroidis
Visiting Professor
BioPetros C. Mavroidis joined the Columbia Law School faculty in 2003. He served as a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) legal affairs division from 1992 to 1995 and has been a legal adviser to the WTO since 1996. He was the chief co-rapporteur for the American Law Institute study “Principles of International Trade: The WTO” (2013).
Mavroidis has written 10 books and scores of peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. His book The Regulation of International Trade won the 2017 Certificate of Merit in International Law for a distinguished contribution to the field from the Executive Council of the American Society of International Law. The two-volume tome is a meticulous exploration of WTO agreements regulating trade in goods. The third volume of the series, dealing with Trade in Services, was published by MIT Press in 2020.
At Columbia Law, Mavroidis is a member of the Center on Global Governance and serves on the boards of advisers for the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law and the Columbia Journal of European Law.
Among his many affiliations, Mavroidis is a member of the American Law Institute, and a Non-resident fellow at Bruegel. -
