SLE Lecturer, Structured Liberal Education
BioE. Lia Kleinbock is a Lecturer in the Program in Structured Liberal Education (SLE), a first-year residential humanities program at Stanford University.
Dr. Kleinbock's research puts modernist cultural production in the German, Soviet, and Anglophone spheres in conversation with the history of the human sciences and the intersecting traditions of Marxism, psychoanalysis, and philosophy of science. Their current book project, growing out of their dissertation, looks at how modernist artists and intellectuals (e.g. Aleksandr Bogdanov, John Dewey, Bertolt Brecht, and Wilfred R. Bion) theorized and depicted processes of teaching and learning. Dr. Kleinbock's broader interests include poetry and poetics, experimental cinema, theater, pre-Freudian histories of the unconscious, and aesthetic and theoretical treatments of impersonality. They are also an occasional theater practitioner and director, with training in clown, commedia dell'arte, and Lecoq-style physical theater.
