Bio

Dr. Dian Rositawati is Indonesia Programs Director at the Stanford Center for Human Rights and International Justice and a Research Scholar at the Stanford Center for Ocean Solutions. Her work focuses on the intersection of law, governance, and sustainable development, with particular emphasis on blue food systems, fisheries governance, and environmental policy.

At Stanford, she led policy research on legal and governance issues related to sustainable development, human rights, and the rule of law in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Her work examines how legal and institutional frameworks shape public policy, governance, and social outcomes, with a particular focus on justice sector reform, environmental governance, and blue food systems. Working closely with government agencies, courts, universities, and international partners, she contributes to evidence-based policy development and institutional reform. Her research interests include judicial governance, human rights, public law, environmental and fisheries governance, small-scale fisheries, and gender.

Dr Rositawati has more than two decades of experience in judicial reform and rule of law initiatives in Indonesia. Since 2000, she has worked extensively with national and international organizations on judicial governance, legal reform, and institutional strengthening. As Indonesia Programs Director, she oversees the development and implementation of research and capacity-building initiatives in human rights, the rule of law, and justice sector reform, while maintaining partnerships with government institutions, courts, universities, and civil society organizations.

Since 2009, she has served as a member of the Judicial Reform Team of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia, where she has contributed to major reform initiatives in judicial education and training, case management, court governance, and judicial oversight. She continues to advise the Supreme Court on institutional reform and judicial capacity development.
