
Mei Bai

Bio
Mei Bai is the Accelerator Directorate deputy director for science at the SLAC accelerator National Laboratory. Prior to joining SLAC, she was the head of the Accelerator Operations Division at the Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung (GSI), one of the Helmholtz research centers in Germany. Prior to GSI, she served as the director of the Large-Scale Facility Institute (IKP-4) at the Forschungszentrum Jülich, also in Germany. The institute IKP-4 is directly responsible for the operation of the Cooler Synchrotron (COSY). During this time, she led several upgrade activities at COSY for precision experiments such as storage ring based EDM search.
During her tenure in Germany, she also supervised PhD students and taught Accelerator Physics at the Universität Bonn as the Experimental Physics Department faculty member.
Prior to her move to Germany, Mei Bai was a tenured scientist at Brookhaven National Lab. She joined BNL in 1999 when the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) was first commissioned and was heavily involved in RHIC operations in the heavy ions and polarized proton programs. She made significant contributions in establishing high-energy polarized proton collisions at RHIC, the only user facility for this kind of research in the world. Her research ranges from spin dynamics to optics diagnostics and corrections.
