Bio
Michael Eastman is a lawyer and historian at Stanford University. Born and raised in South Africa, he clerked for the Chief Justice of South Africa, practiced corporate litigation in Johannesburg, served as a human rights lawyer throughout Africa, and was a senior legal advisor to the Government of South Africa. An immigrant to the United States, he holds dual appointments at Stanford University Library and the Stanford Center for Human Rights and International Justice. For the Library, Michael leads the research into the California Historical Society Collection, while for the Center for Human Rights and International Justice he leads the research into international law, particularly for the Virtual Tribunals initiative. He was educated at the University of Cape Town and Yale University.
