Nirjhar Das

Bio

I am a PhD student at Stanford MS&E. My research interests are in computational economics and social choice, learning theory, and algorithms in general. I also enjoy high dimensional probability and its applications. Before Stanford, I was a Research Master student at the Dept. of Computer Science and Automation, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, under the guidance of Prof Siddharth Barman. My Master's thesis focused on aspects of responsible AI like diversity, alignment and audit.

Before IISc, I was an undergraduate at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi majoring in Electrical Engineering. My BTech thesis in Reinforcement Learning and Multi-Armed Bandits under Prof. Arpan Chattopadhyay won the Best BTech Project Award. I also completed a Minor in Artificial Intelligence at IIT Delhi.

Somewhere in between, I worked at Microsoft Research India under Dr. Gaurav Sinha for a year. There, I worked on problems related to Multi-Armed Bandits in large action spaces and under various constraints.

Current Research and Scholarly Interests

My research interests are in computational economics and social choice, learning theory, and algorithms in general. I also enjoy high dimensional probability and its applications. With a focus on theoretical models and provable algorithms, I want to understand interaction of artificial intelligence (AI) and society and the nuances therein.
