Pooja Neiman is an Acute Care Surgeon and Assistant Professor at Stanford University. She completed her Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at UCSF/San Francisco General Hospital in San Francisco, CA and her General Surgery residency at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. She was a National Clinician Scholars Program (NCSP) Fellow at the University of Michigan where her work focused on the clinical and financial outcomes for surgical patients with health policy changes. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she also volunteered with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Testing Team to bring K-12 students safely back to school. Prior to starting residency, she completed her medical education at the UCLA School of Medicine and received her Master’s in Public Administration at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. While in college, Pooja launched a non-profit called Mobilizing Health, an organization that connected physicians and community leaders to medical advice via text messages to more than 5,000 patients in rural India. After running Mobilizing Health full-time for two years and overseeing its transition to UNICEF, she focused her energy on issues related to access to health care domestically. As someone whose parents went into medical debt and later obtained health insurance through the Affordable Care Act, she knew what it meant to suddenly have access to good, affordable health care. Pooja believes that access to high-value, affordable health care is a basic need and trauma systems are a large pillar in that access. Pooja sees health research and policy as a critical component of her practice as an Acute Care Surgeon.
