Bio


Steven Michael Crane, BA, MS, is a Stanford-trained researcher and behavior designer focused on the science and practice of human flourishing—especially social connection and well-being. His life’s work is to study, share, and practice the principles of living that lead to greater wisdom, peace, and prosocial engagement in the world.

At Stanford, he has been a Research Scholar in Neurobiology and researcher with The Stanford Behavior Design Lab and The Stanford Prevention Research Center. He currently serves as an Adjunct Lecturer and Head of the Social Engagement Pillar with Stanford Lifestyle Medicine, where he contributes to evidence syntheses and applied research on social connectedness interventions.

He earned an MS in Community Health and Prevention Research from Stanford School of Medicine and a BA with distinction in Human Biology. He is completing his PhD in Psychology in one of Europe’s premier psychology laboratories with the University of Toulouse.

Through his firm, Synaptic Insights Consulting, Steven helps organizations evaluate programs and products with the level of rigor appropriate to real-world constraints—using validated measures, strong study design, modern psychometrics, and open-science practices to produce results that stand up to scrutiny. His work spans academia, nonprofits, and industry, including leading measurement and analysis work for large-scale social connection initiatives and publishing in top peer-reviewed journals.
