    BioMichael O'Key is a fifth-year Ph.D. candidate in the Graduate School of Education, concentrating in Race, Inequality, and Language (RILE) and Social Sciences, Humanities, and Interdisciplinary Policy Studies (SHIPS), as well as second-year law student and Public Interest Law Fellow at University of California Los Angeles School of Law. His research examines the nexus between school access and student assignment policies, school segregation, and juvenile delinquency.

    BioDr. Eghosa Obaizamomwan-Hamilton is a Black motherscholar who prioritizes scholarship in service of her community. She works in the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University, and prior to higher education, she was a K-12 educator for 16 years. Her broad research and teaching focus on Black Critical Race Theory, Black Educational Studies, Black Feminist Thought, intersectionality, critical pedagogy, and the sociology of race and education. She is the co-founder of the nonprofit organization Making Us Matter and co-founding editor of The Black Educology Mixtape “Journal”. Her scholarship investigates the complex intersections of race, identity, gender, and education, and is published in peer-reviewed journals such as Harvard Educational Review, Equity & Excellence in Education, Race Ethnicity and Education, and Educational Studies. Her first book, Articulations, A Radical Methodology for Black Pedagogy: Redefining Education through Black Women’s Hair Experiences, is published through Routledge. Drawing on 18 years of experience, her writing, teaching, and research intersect to explore interdisciplinary themes deeply informed by and engaging with Black intellectual traditions.

    BioJohn Onuigbo is an education innovator and social entrepreneur whose work focuses on helping students in vulnerable communities gain the skills and confidence to thrive in the future workforce, regardless of the limitations of their environment. His mission lies at the intersection of education, entrepreneurship, and technology, where he creates transformative learning opportunities that bridge access and possibility for young people across Nigeria and beyond.

    John is the founder and chief executive officer of Foris Labs, a virtual science laboratory that enables secondary school students to perform experiments in physics, chemistry, and biology through interactive digital simulations. Built in response to the limited access to functional laboratories in many Nigerian schools, Foris Labs is redefining how science is taught and experienced. The platform has been adopted by leading schools across the country, helping students understand core scientific concepts and teachers deliver more engaging lessons.

    Alongside this, John founded Stemnovo NG, an initiative that empowers young people in rural and semi-urban communities with practical skills in coding, robotics, and entrepreneurship. Since its inception, the program has reached over 17,000 students, providing them with the tools to turn curiosity into innovation. Many participants have gone on to win national and international innovation competitions and develop technology-driven solutions to local challenges.

    In recognition of his impact, John became the first African to win the Stanford Center on Longevity Design Challenge in 2021, a global innovation competition that celebrates creative solutions advancing learning, health, and wellbeing. His leadership has also guided students to victories in major programs, including the Diamond Challenge, Beyond School Community Challenge, the World Affairs Challenge, and the UK–Nigeria Debate Championship. He won The Future Awards Africa Prize for Education 2025 and was named a Dalai Lama Fellow for the year 2026.

    John served as the youngest member of the South East Development Commission’s Venture Capital Advisory Committee, where he contributed to developing a framework for a 50M VC fund focused on youth-focused innovation and entrepreneurship development across the region. In 2025, he was named a Social Shifters Fellow and appointed to the Social Shifters Global Youth Council, where he works alongside young leaders around the world to promote inclusive and sustainable innovation.

    BioLouie is a Research Associate in the Technology Ethics & Policy Rising Scholars Program at the McCoy Family Center for Ethics in Society. Louie works with the Embedded Ethics team to weave ethical reflection into the core computer science courses at Stanford, investigating its effectiveness. He is particularly interested in how institutional frameworks shape underrepresented students’ engagement with ethical reflection in technology, and how research can inform more inclusive approaches to technical education across academic spaces. Louie is a first-generation graduate from UC Berkeley, where he received his bachelor's degree in Data Science with a concentration in Philosophy.

    BioMy research focus is a mix of work on policy and pedagogy in the teaching and learning of science. In the policy domain, I am interested in exploring students' attitudes to science and how school science can be made more worthwhile and engaging - particularly for those who will not continue with the study of science. In pedagogy, my focus has been on making the case for the role of argumentation in science education both as a means of improving the use of a more dialogic approach to teaching science and improving student understanding of the nature of scientific inquiry. I have worked on four major projects in argumentation. The first from 1999-2002 was on 'Enhancing the Quality of Argument in School Science Education'. From this we developed the IDEAS (Ideas, Evidence and Argument in Science Education) materials to support teacher professional learning funded by the Nuffield Foundation. From 2007-2010 I was co-PI on the project 'Learning to Teach Ideas, Evidence and Argument in School Science' which explored how to build teachers competency with the use of this pedagogy in four schools. Most recently, I have worked with Mark Wilson of UCB on a project to develop and test a learning progression for Argumentation in science. Some of this work can be found on the website:

    My other area of interest in pedagogy is the teaching of reading and the facilitation of discussion. I have published a book entitled 'Language and Literacy in Science Education' and we are just completing a five year IES funded project - 'Catalyzing Comprehension through Discussion and Debate' exploring how we can support the teaching of reading in science.     And a MOOC called 'Reading to Learn in Science" which is offered by NovoEd and will be run again from Jan 13, 2016 for 12 weeks.

    Finally, much science, if not more, is learned outside the classroom and how young people learn in that environment and what it has to offer formal education is another focus of my work and I was one of the partners in the NSF funded Centre for Informal Learning and Schools (2002-7) and have several publications in this field.

    BioDr. Osuna's research focuses on the nature of student identity and engagement during collaborative mathematical activity, and the ways in which authority and influence are constructed in interaction. Recent work has focused on developing theoretical and analytic tools to capture the construction of marginalization and privilege in patterns of student engagement, and the spread of ideas in student-led collaborative work. Her work has appeared in the Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, Journal of the Learning Sciences, Review of Research in Education, Mathematics Teaching and Learning, ZDM, Mathematics Education Research Journal, Canadian Journal of Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education, Education Sciences, among other outlets.
