Sheri Loo

BioSheri joined the Stanford Neurosurgery team as a nurse practitioner in 2018. Her current clinical focus is in brain and spine tumors and complex spinal deformities in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Prior to becoming an NP, she worked as a Registered Nurse specializing in neuro-stroke. She is a member of California Association of Nurse Practitioners, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, American Association of Neuroscience Nurses, and Sigma Theta Tau. In her free time, Sheri enjoys volunteering at a local primary care free clinic, going on medical missions trips, and mentoring and precepting students.

Brigid Matts

BioBrigid is a nurse practitioner providing care for patients with complex spine conditions including spinal deformity and spinal tumors. She joined the Stanford Neurosurgery team in March 2017 after completing her MSN – Family Nurse Practitioner degree at UCSF. Brigid started her career as an Army Nurse working in Korea, Hawaii, and Afghanistan. Following active duty she moved to California where she first was a travel nurse at the Stanford Neuroscience Clinic and then worked as a nurse at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Pediatric Brain Center for four years. Brigid is a member of Sigma Theta Tau and the California Association of Nurse Practitioners.

Her area of clinical practice is bone marrow transplant and cancer cellular therapies. She practices on the inpatient service as well l as the infusion treatment area in addition to her leadership role.

She enjoys developing a close, long-term relationship with patients. She focuses on delivering high-quality, comprehensive care to meet patient-driven goals.
Dr. Sbaih earned her medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine. She also earned degrees in psychology and in human development and family studies.
She received her residency training in internal medicine at the University of Louisville, Kentucky. During residency, she was one of the initial members of an advocacy group dedicated to studying and addressing health inequity throughout BIPOC communities. Her work directly contributed to a nationwide study providing updated recommendations for health care institutions in providing more equitable healthcare.
Dr. Sbaih has assisted in clinical research of vascular resistance in pulmonary hypertension patients, lipids promoting growth of lung cancer cells, and drug interactions involving commonly prescribed travel-related medications.
She has published in journals such as CHEST and the international research journal Global Cardiology Science and Practice. She has made presentations to her peers and educated medical students regarding the field of palliative care.
Volunteer service of Dr. Sbaih includes participation in activities of on-profit organizations to help feed the homeless population, as well as participating in a state-based initiative that is part of a nationwide campaign to raise awareness for homelessness.
She spends time with family, hikes, and watches movies when not providing patient care.

Helen Shih, MSN, NP

BioHelen Shih is an endocrine oncology NP who works with patients with benign and malignant neuroendocrine tumors, bridging the gaps between medical, surgical and endocrine oncology. She manages endocrinology immunotherapy adverse related events, and sees patients on clinical trials with neuroendocrine tumors including adrenal cortical carcinomas and thyroid cancers which require immunotherapy or targeted therapies. In addition, she has started her own thyroid nodule clinic.
Helen has been an NP since 2009, but her journey into hematology/oncology world, started in 2014, when working with a hematology/oncology practice in SF. From there, she worked at UCSF for 5 years in thoracic and sarcoma oncology. Helen was the primary NP in clinical trials investigating new treatment strategies for thoracic and sarcoma malignancies.
Prior to 2014, Helen worked as a primary care nurse practitioner for the San Francisco Department of Public Health and as a registered nurse in Weill Cornell Medicine's pulmonary step-down unit.
Shih graduated as an adult nurse practitioner from the Columbia University School of Nursing. Previously, she had received a bachelor's degree in molecular cell biology from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by a master of public health degree in epidemiology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Her interests and hobbies include nature, dogs, dance classes, cooking, and creative endeavors. -
Margaret Tolbert

BioMeg Tolbert is a Nurse Practitioner with colorectal surgery at Stanford Hospital. She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Villanova University. She is currently involved in several research studies with the colorectal team. Prior to coming to Stanford she was a faculty member at both the University of Miami and the University of Michigan where she taught in the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. While at University of Michigan she also taught in the college of LSA and worked with the medical school’s office of diversity helping with community outreach. At the University of Miami she practiced clinically in women’s health and was involved in research projects with HIV+ women as well as the NIH funded Women’s Health Initiative. She also helped write a grant that was funded for a distance-learning program for second career nursing students. While at the University of Michigan she worked at a free health clinic as a primary care provider and was part of the Pelvic Floor Research Team, which was a multidisciplinary team. While there she was involved with NIH funded studies and was project manager for a multi site study for a device seeking FDA approval. She has been published with the team in peer-reviewed journals and has been first author on several poster presentations. She was also awarded a grant for the free clinic to start a primary care/continuity of care clinic

I have worked at three outstanding university settings in GI surgery and feel fortunate to have found this position in Surgical Oncology and HPB (Hepatic, Pancreatic and Biliary) Surgery at Stanford Healthcare where I have worked since 2011. In 2016, I joined the APP Leadership team as a Lead APP for the GI Oncology, Sarcoma and Phase I groups.
