Woongbi Cho
Postdoctoral Scholar, Mechanical Engineering
BioWoongbi Cho is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. He received his B.S. in Polymer Science and Engineering from Inha University in February 2019 , and his Ph.D. in Organic and Nano Engineering from Hanyang University in February 2025. His doctoral research focused on developing next-generation polymer composites, emphasizing processing-structure-property-performance (PSPP) relationships in liquid crystalline and sulfur-rich polymers. Currently, Woongbi's research interests center on adaptive materials, electromagnetically (EM)-driven soft robotics, polymer assembly mechanisms, and active metamaterials for applications in soft robotics, optoelectronics, and energy harvesting.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy research focuses on using wastewater to track infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance across populations. I integrate environmental surveillance with clinical data to understand pathogen transmission dynamics and support public health decision-making within a One Health framework.

Gauri Desai
Postdoctoral Scholar, Bioengineering
BioDr. Gauri Desai is a Postdoctoral Research Associate with the Female Athlete Science and Translational Research Program (FASTR). She is a biomechanist, with a research focus on female-specific biomechanical risk factors for sport-related injuries. She integrates biomechanics principles with physiology to provide an all-round perspective on improving performance and mitigating injury risk in female athletes. Dr. Desai's research complements human subject experiments with insights from computer modeling and simulation, to answer research questions that are challenging to address via human subject research studies alone. Beyond research, she is an active contributor to the sports science community through mentorship and advocacy for women in sport.

Duncan Eddy
Postdoctoral Scholar, Aeronautics and Astronautics
BioDuncan Eddy is a research fellow in the Stanford University Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He completed his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Stanford, funded by the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship. His current research is focused on decision-making in safety-critical, climate, and space systems, where operational decisions must be made quickly and correctly in complex environments while still being explainable and understandable by human stakeholders.
He is currently the Executive Director of the Stanford Center for AI Safety, and a post-doctoral researcher with appointments in Mineral-X and the Stanford Intelligent Systems Laboratory (SISL).
Prior to this, He started and led the Spacecraft Operations Group at Capella Space, the first US Commercial Synthetic Aperture Radar Earth Imaging constellation. There he developed the first fully-automated mission operations system, realizing lights-out tasking-to-delivery of radar satellite data for a commercial constellation. He subsequently started and led the Constellation Operations and Space Safety Groups at Project Kuiper. Most recently, he was a Principal Applied Scientist at Amazon Web Services, where he worked on building software services for large-scale distributed edge compute applications. -
Gabriel Ferreras Garrucho
Postdoctoral Scholar, Bioengineering
BioGabriel grew up in Seville, Spain, and earned a BA in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from the University of Seville, where he was introduced to plant molecular biology working on the interplay between flowering signalling and autophagy in Arabidopsis. He then moved to the United Kingdom to do a PhD in Plant Sciences in the University of Cambridge, in the group of Uta Paszkowski, working on the spatio-temporal regulation of arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis signalling in rice, followed by a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the same group optimising single-nuclei RNA-sequencing for the mutualism between rice and mycorrhizal fungi. In the Brophy lab, Gabriel is excited to work on the discovery and validation of cell-type-specific enhancers in sorghum using a combination of single-nuclei multi-omics, machine learning methods and high-throughput screens in protoplasts and in planta.
