Alex Aiken

BioAlex Aiken is the Alcatel-Lucent Professor of Computer Science at Stanford. Alex received his Bachelors degree in Computer Science and Music from Bowling Green State University in 1983 and his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1988. Alex was a Research Staff Member at the IBM Almaden Research Center (1988-1993) and a Professor in the EECS department at UC Berkeley (1993-2003) before joining the Stanford faculty in 2003. His research interest is in areas related to programming languages.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur goal is to develop and clinically implement new technologies for high-precision and noninvasive intervention upon the nervous system. Every few millimeters of the brain is functionally distinct, and different parts of the brain may have counteracting responses to therapy. To better match our therapies to neuroscience, we develop techniques that allow intervention upon only the right part of the nervous system at the right time, using technologies like focused ultrasound and nanotechnology.

I graduated with a PhD degree at Department of Flexible and Printable Electronics, Jeonbuk National University, Jeonju, Republic of Korea. During my PhD I worked for the development of of Electrode Materials for Supercapacitor, sensor and Electrochromic Devices".
Specialized in various nanomaterials synthesis techniques such as hydrothermal, room temperature synthesis, solvothermal, electrodeposition and ultrasonication. Furthermore, have extensive hands-on experience on operation of XRD, FESEM and electrochemical workstation.
My skill set extends beyond the laboratory, encompassing adeptness in strategic planning, impactful presentations and scientific writing.
Presently, I contribute my expertise as an industrial postdoctoral researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Mycronic, Sweden.
My job is to focus microfabrication technology utilizing AJA evaporator, MLA-150, photolithography and reactive ion etching. Currently, I fabricated my electrochemical transistor with 1.25, 2.5, 5 and 10 micrometer channel length. I am also enjoying the facilities provided by Stanford University for neuromorphic characterizations.
I am eagerly seeking fresh opportunities within the realms of R&D and academia.

Anas Alharbi

BioI’m a graduate international student in the Civil and Environmental Engineering (Atmosphere/Energy) program at Stanford University, with a background in Chemical Engineering. My interests sit at the intersection of sustainability, energy systems, and data-driven decision-making.
In my professional career, I have managed projects that required both technical depth and business judgment. My work often involves data analysis to evaluate projects from technical and financial perspectives and turn results into clear recommendations for decision-makers.
I also hold an MBA and I’m a CFA Charterholder. I’m especially interested in decarbonization strategy, environmental performance, and energy/climate finance.
Outside of class, I enjoy all kinds of physical activities, even though I’m still a beginner.
