I am particularly interested in the role of families within college choice decision-making and employ both qualitative and data science methods to investigate how familial values and knowledge is employed throughout the college application process for Latinx students.

Grzegorz M. Madejski

BioMy English-speaking friends know me as Greg. I was born in Poland, but my college and graduate education was in the US, respectively at MIT and Harvard. After spending 14 years at NASA/Goddard, I arrived in Stanford in 2000. My research interests are mainly in extragalactic high-energy astrophysics. This includes (1) studies of active galactic nuclei, and an associated formation and evolution of relativistic jets; and (2) studies of clusters of galaxies, and in particular the processes responsible for the heating of the X-ray emitting intra-cluster gas. Besides taking advantage of data from the Fermi Gamma-ray Observatory, I am involved in analyzing and interpreting observations performed with X-ray satellites such as NuSTAR, a recently-launched NASA satellite, sensitive in the hard X-ray band, and Hitomi, a joint Japanese - US X-ray astronomy mission.

Salvatore Mancuso

Current Role at StanfordSal Mancuso is an experienced data engineer who joins The PRIDE Study as the LGBTQ+ Digital Health Research Data Engineer. Sal spent nearly seven years with Stanford University's Graduate School of Business (GSB), most recently leading the data engineering unit within the Data, Analytics, and Research Computing (DARC) team. The DARC team engages directly with Ph.D. students, researchers, and faculty members, preparing large-scale datasets, assisting with data analysis, and consulting research design. Before joining Stanford, Sal worked for several technology companies, including Apple Computer, Tivo (formally Rovi), and Sun Microsystems (now ORACLE), where he leveraged both his fondness for data and his passion for coding. Sal is eager to practice his data craft to elevate the adoption and impact of The PRIDE Study.

Research Asst - Graduate - Hourly, SociologyBioTanajia Moye-Green is a Sociology Ph.D. student at Stanford University and a Knight-Hennessy Scholar. Her research examines the economic impact of incarceration on families, with a focus on how loved ones—particularly partners—navigate financial strain, fines and fees, and the broader challenges of supporting justice-impacted individuals. She is also interested in how the consequences of maternal incarceration differ from those of paternal incarceration in shaping child and family wellbeing. Tanajia holds an M.Sc. in Criminal Justice and Penal Change from the University of Strathclyde and a B.A. in Sociology from Washington and Lee University. She has conducted research with the Vera Institute of Justice and the National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform, and she currently works with Dr. Sarah Brayne. She is also a Fulbright Postgraduate Awardee, NSF GRFP Fellow, and Beinecke Scholar.

A Kurdish-Iranian musician, multi-instrumentalist, improviser, composer, and researcher, Ashkan is currently a PhD candidate in ethnomusicology and a doctoral certificate student in composition at Stanford University. Ashkan’s compositional work draws on the Iranian dastgāh system and Kurdish maqām idioms, while his practice at Stanford engages contemporary and experimental compositional approaches.
Ashkan’s more than 15-year research career has centered on Kurdish classical and folk musics as well as Iranian classical music. At Stanford, his work explores intersections between music and genocide, war, violence, intellectual movements, Islam, and Kurdish identity. He is also interested in developing decolonial ethnographic approaches to maqām as a cultural–musical practice and concept, particularly in relation to ethnicity and racism.
In his quest to explore those realms, Ashkan has already been prolific back home, with two titles: The Concept and Structure of Maqām in Kurdish Music, The Structure of Musical Modes in Hawrāmi Music. His articles have appeared in leading Iranian journals, and he has presented his research at international ethnomusicology conferences.
As the founder and conductor of the first philharmonic orchestra in his Kurdish hometown of Paveh, Ashkan has also taught Iranian music theory and directed Iranian ensembles, and has instructed setār performance and the analysis of Iranian classical music at the University of Kurdistan and the University of Art and Culture in Kermanshah and Sanandaj, respectively. -
