David Cardinal
Lecturer, Psychology
BioDavid is a Lecturer at Stanford University, co-teaching Psychology 221, Image Systems Engineering and Psychology 204A, .Human Neuroimaging Methods. He is also a co-contributor to Stanford's ISET imaging toolbox, leading the effort to extend it in areas including machine learning and computational photography.
David has held various development and management positions at Sun Microsystems, including directing their efforts in AI and digital imaging. He was also the founding CEO and CTO of First Floor Software, which later became Calico Commerce.
Complementing his teaching role, David is a also a technologist, tech journalist and professional photographer two decades of experience as a digital travel and nature photographer. David co-wrote one of the first image management solutions for digital photographers -- DigitalPro for Windows. His articles have appeared in dozens of magazines including many in PCMag, Dr. Dobbs, Photoshop User, and Outdoor Photographer. His photo awards include First Place in the National Wildlife Federation contest, and Finalist in the BBC / NHM Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.
David holds a BSE in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Princeton University, where he received the Joseph Clifton Elgin award.

Jennifer Crosby
Psych One Coordinator, Psychology
Current Role at StanfordJennifer coordinates the Psych One course and the Psych One program, including supporting the graduate and undergraduate Teaching Fellows and administering the Psych One course in partnership with the team of faculty instructors. Bee has been with Stanford for more than 20 years. She started working for Department of Urology, then moved to Department of Medicine as a Residency Coordinator. In 2004, she ventured to Department of Pediatrics to run the Fellowship Program. After working for School of Medicine, she decided to join the other side of the campus in the Department of Theater and Performance Studies and explore her creative side. Bee loves to dance and listen to different kinds of music (except for heavy metal). When she is off from work, she loves to watch various concerts around the Bay Area. Virginia A. Marchman

Staff, PsychologyBioAs a developmental psychologist, my main areas of research are language development, language disorders, and early childhood development. I have worked extensively with parent report measures of early vocabulary, specifically, the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventories (CDIs). I serve on the CDI Advisory Board, and have worked on many projects including the Web-CDI, the CDI Scoring program, and Wordbank, an open repository of CDI instruments from many different languages. My current studies examine links between children's language processing skill, early learning environments, and individual differences in language development in monolingual and bilingual learners from diverse backgrounds. Our team also explores the importance of environmental stimulation in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), showing that early engagement in developmental care activities (e.g., skin-to-skin care, holding, talking) has important consequences for positive neurological and behavioral outcomes. I am also involved in a large-scale NIH-funded project following infants born preterm from birth to 18 months, examining the neurodevelopmental and environmental influences on development in this at risk population. In addition to conducting studies that have a basic science focus, I have also been Director of Program Evaluation for the Habla Conmigo project, overseeing the evaluation of parenting intervention programs designed to facilitate caregiver engagement in Latina mothers and their young children.

Kate Petrova

Research Asst - Graduate, PsychologyBioKate Petrova is a third-year PhD student at the Stanford Psychophysiology Laboratory. In her research, Kate uses the tools of computational affective science to better understand how people use affect as a source of information in decision-making. Her other interests include applying computational modeling to formalize existing theories of emotion generation and regulation, as well as using a combination of behavioral experiments and intensive longitudinal methods to study interpersonal emotion regulation, Kate earned her A.B. in Psychology from Bryn Mawr College and spent several years working on the Harvard Study of Adult Development before joining SPL.

Current Role at StanfordI am the Administrative Services Manager in the Department of Psychology within the School of Humanities and Sciences. I manage the Faculty Administrative Associates who support the faculty of our department which offers undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees in Psychology, and conducts research in the areas of affective science, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, neuroscience, and social psychology. In addition to being the Administrative Services Manager, I also provide administrative support to Professors Grill-Spector, Wine, Fernald, McClelland, Gerstenberg, Goodman, Starck, Ellis and Gwilliams their students, and research groups. I am involved with the grant and IRB management for the research protocols of my faculty. I also provide website administration for our department.
