BioDr. Payrovi is a physician practicing Integrative and Functional Medicine at Stanford’s Center for Integrative Medicine. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at UCLA and completed her medical education at UC San Diego in 2003. She completed a residency in Anesthesiology at USC in 2007. Dr. Payrovi is board certified in Anesthesiology, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, as well as Integrative Medicine. She earned a Ph.D. in Global Health from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and a Master of Science in Nutrition from the National Institute of Public Health in Mexico (INSP). Her research focuses on generating evidence for interventions and policy recommendations aimed at improving the dietary quality of children to impact their health and development. Currently, she is employing a community-engaged approach to design nutrition interventions and policy recommendations that aim to reduce the consumption of ultra-processed foods among low-income children to narrow the gap in health disparities.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsBroadly, Dr. Pelc is interested in the physics, engineering and mathematics of medical imaging, especially computed tomography, digital x-ray imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, and hybrid multimodality systems. His current research is concentrated in the development of computed tomography systems with higher image quality and dose efficiency, in the characterization of system performance, and in the development and validation of new clinical applications.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsThe laboratory develops and uses state of the art genomic methods to identify genetic factors affecting disease susceptibility, and to translate these findings into new treatments. We have developed a more efficient method for performing mouse genetic analysis, which has been used to analyze the genetic basis for 16 different biomedical traits. We are developing novel methods, and have developed a novel experimental platform that replaces mouse liver with functioning human liver tissue.

Megan Marie Pendleton

BioMegan Pendleton MD, PhD is a graduate of Stanford Emergency Medicine residency and was a former NASA engineer. She earned her MD from UCSF and prior to this earned her Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech, and her PhD in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley. Her doctoral research, in collaboration with NASA Ames, examined the effects of spaceflight radiation on the human body, particularly on fracture risk. Before medicine she worked at NASA Johnson Space Center on spacesuit and Orion seat design. She is originally from Austin, Texas.
Her academic interests center on the intersection of space medicine and innovation of translational medical devices. Her work explores how technologies developed for human spaceflight can then be adapted to improve patient care in telehealth, pre-hospital medicine and the Emergency Department. Dr. Pendleton also loves to design visually driven lectures in emergency medicine and developed medicinewithmegan.com, an open-access educational platform featuring high-yield clinical teaching topics.
Outside of medicine, she loves to scuba dive and is a licensed private pilot. Ask her about diving all over the world: Fiji, Thailand, Palau, Cabo Pulmo, Bonaire, Turks, Grand Cayman, Hawaii, Panama, Galapagos. She is always looking for new recommendations and happy to send some as well. -

On Leave from 2026-07-27 To 2026-08-31Current Research and Scholarly InterestsFacial paralysis is a debilitating condition that affects thousands of people. Despite excellent surgical technique, we are currently limited by the regenerative capacity of the body. The mission of our research is to identify new treatments that improve current facial paralysis treatments. We do this by exploring the regenerative cues that the body uses to restore tissue after nerve injury, in particular through pathways of neurogenesis and nerve repair in small mammals.
