Tong Shan
Postdoctoral Scholar, Psychiatry
BioTong completed her Ph.D. at the University of Rochester. She also holds an M.S. in Biostatistics from Northwestern University and a B.S. in Medical Imaging from Sichuan University.
In her research, Tong has explored topics such as subcortical and cortical neural responses to naturalistic speech and music, neural mechanisms underlying musical perception, and the impact of visual cues on speech-in-noise comprehension.
Currently, Tong is involved in the Speaker-Listener projects, where she investigates brain activities related to natural communication. She is excited to deepen her understanding of auditory processing of speech during communication and its implications for improving quality of life, particularly in clinical populations such as individuals with ASD, AD, etc.
Outside of her research, Tong is a music producer, creating original songs and soundtracks for video games. She has a passion for exploring the intersection of art and technology. -
Chun Yin Siu
Postdoctoral Scholar, Psychiatry
BioChunyin Siu (Alex) is a postdoctoral scholar in the Brain Dynamics Lab, led by Prof. Mannish Saggar, at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He specializes in topological data analysis and its application in analyzing neuroimaging data.
He got his PhD degree in Applied Mathematics at Cornell University under the supervision of Prof. Gennady Samorodnitsky. Before that, he got this MPhil. degree in Mathematics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Prof. Ronald (Lokming) Lui. -
Selene Wang Sobek
Postdoctoral Scholar, Psychiatry
BioSelene’s research focuses on understanding how stress and early-life experiences shape the neural circuits involved in opioid addiction and relapse. Her previous work examined how stress-related changes in brain reward circuits can increase vulnerability to opioid seeking following abstinence. This work inspired a broader interest in how dopamine and opioid signaling interact to influence addictive behaviors. Her current research investigates how ibogaine affects the neural systems associated with opioid addiction and explores whether understanding its mechanisms could contribute to developing more effective treatments for opioid use disorder.

Maira Tafolla
Postdoctoral Scholar, Psychiatry
BioMaira Tafolla, Ph.D., is a postdoctoral scholar working under the supervision of Dr. Somer Bishop in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Tafolla is interested in diagnosis and treatment of individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities. She received her Ph.D. in Human Development and Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2025. Dr. Tafolla has a wide range of research interests related to individuals with developmental conditions that include treatment of individuals with autism and intellectual disabilities, assessment of bilingual individuals, better understanding of caregiver mental health and well-being, and facilitators and barriers to service access for families who are underrepresented. She has published various articles on several of these topics. Dr. Tafolla is bilingual and is a certified ADOS-2 trainer in both Spanish and English.
