Weiguo Fan
Postdoctoral Scholar, Gastroenterology
BioMy research focuses on liver diseases. I got my Ph.D. degree in virology and immune response at Institut Pasteur of Shanghai, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The two main projects during my Ph.D. program are: 1) explore the relationship between the immune response in Hepatitis C virus infection and Interferon treatment; and 2) investigate the function of ECM1 in liver fibrosis. As a postdoc in Stanford, I will try to integrate basic and translational liver research and focus on: 1) investigate molecular functions of liver immune cells in liver disease; 2) explore key factors determining the change of liver microenvironment that cause liver diseases; 3) use new techniques, such as next-generation sequencing, RNAseq or signal cell sequencing, to explore key factors affecting liver disease and treatment in patients.

Chrysovalantou Faniku
Postdoctoral Scholar, Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery
BioDr. Chrysovalantou Faniku performed her undergraduate studies at the University of Bedfordshire in England (UK) from 2008-2012, majoring in Biomedical Sciences. She continued her Master degree in Reproductive and Developmental Biology at St George’s Medical School in London from 2012-2013. Her research focused on post-ovulatory wound repair and scarring. Dr. Faniku worked as a research assistant at King’s College London prior to pursuing a Ph.D. in Glasgow in 2014. She completed her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology in 2018. Her research focused on Cx43 and Panx1, how these are impacted by diabetes and ischemia and how they could be potential therapeutic targets for wound healing of diabetic ulcers. In 2018, Dr. Faniku started her first postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Otolaryngology working in the lab of Dr. Jon-Paul Pepper. Her project investigates the role of the hedgehog pathway in facial nerve regeneration after injury.

Priya Fielding-Singh
Postdoctoral Scholar, SCRDP/ Heart Disease Prevention
BioI am a Sociologist and Postdoctoral Fellow in Cardiovascular Disease Prevention at the Stanford Prevention Research Center. My research examines health, gender, and social inequality.
My primary research agenda investigates health disparities across class, race, and gender in the United States. I draw on both qualitative and quantitative methods to understand how neighborhoods, schools, and families shape our health behaviors and outcomes. My work has been published in journals such as Social Science & Medicine, Obesity, Sociological Science, and the Journal of Adolescent Health.
I hold a Ph.D. in Sociology from Stanford University, a M.A. in Anthropology from the University of Bremen, and a B.S. in Education and Social Policy from Northwestern University. -
Shawna Follis
Postdoctoral Scholar, SCRDP/ Heart Disease Prevention
BioShawna Follis, PhD, MS, is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Stanford Prevention Research Center. Dr. Follis is a social epidemiologist researching social determinants of health, race/ethnic health disparities, body composition, and aging.

Jenna Forsyth
Postdoctoral Scholar, Biology
Academic Program Professional, Medicine - Med/Infectious DiseasesBioJenna is a postdoctoral fellow with the Woods Institute for the Environment. She completed her PhD with the Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources and obtained her Master's in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Washington. Her research brings together principles of environmental science, epidemiology, and behavior change. She hopes to develop and evaluate interventions to minimize exposures to contaminants and disease vectors in low-income countries. Her most recent research on lead contamination in food has brought her to Bangladesh.

Sajjad Fouladvand, PhD, MSc
Postdoctoral Scholar, Biomedical Informatics
BioSajjad Fouladvand, PhD, MSc is a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford Center for Biomedical Informatics Research. Dr. Fouladvand's research career thus far has been focused on developing and applying artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to solve real-world healthcare problems. Prior to Stanford, he worked at the Institute for Biomedical Informatics at the University of Kentucky (UK) while completing his PhD in Computer Science. During this time, he also received training at Mayo Clinic’s Department of Artificial Intelligence and Informatics as an intern.
While at UK as a PhD candidate, he developed a deep learning model based on transformer and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) models to analyze multi-stream healthcare data for prediction of opioid use disorder (OUD). While at Mayo Clinic as an intern, he created a LSTM based framework to predict progression from cognitively unimpaired to mild cognitive impairment in an aging population. In his new role at Stanford, Dr. Fouladvand is involved in conducting AI and healthcare data science research in close collaboration with clinicians, scientists, and healthcare systems with access to deep clinical data warehouses and broad population health data sources. -
Shivali Fulchand
Postdoctoral Scholar, Dermatology
BioShivali started her role as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Stanford University Department of Dermatology in September 2020. She grew up in Leicestershire, England. She graduated from Cardiff University School of Medicine in 2017, and has a BSc (Honours) in Medical Genetics. After graduation, she completed a two-year academic internship program with the University Hospitals of Leicester, England. Following this, she was selected for a national medical leadership fellowship and worked as an Editor at The BMJ from 2019-20. Whilst at medical school, she co-founded The British Student Doctor Journal, a novel peer-reviewed journal to educate and train medical students in editorial work, peer review and publishing. The journal is a publication of The Foundation for Medical Publishing, and Shivali now serves as an Executive Director and Trustee of this organization.

Connie Fung
Postdoctoral Scholar, Pathology
BioConnie received her B.S. in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics from UCLA, where she conducted research on how the eukaryotic parasite Toxoplasma gondii invades and replicates inside host cells in the lab of Dr. Peter Bradley. Subsequently, she obtained her Ph.D. in Microbiology & Immunology from Stanford University with Dr. Manuel Amieva. Her thesis research involved the use of high-resolution microscopy to study how the bacterium Helicobacter pylori establishes and maintains persistent colonization of the gastric epithelium. Connie joined Dr. Michael Howitt's lab as a postdoctoral research fellow in 2019 and is currently investigating how tuft cells, specialized taste-chemosensory cells, modulate mucosal immunity in response to intestinal parasites.
