Arghavan Salles
Sr Res Scholar, Medicine
BioDr. Salles is a minimally invasive and bariatric surgeon. She completed medical school and residency in general surgery at Stanford prior to completing her fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. She stayed on faculty at Washington University for three years prior to moving back to Stanford. Dr. Salles obtained a PhD in education from Stanford University during her residency training, and her research focuses on gender equity, implicit bias, diversity, inclusion, and physician well-being. Dr. Salles became a COVID Frontliner in 2020 and served in ICUs in New York and Arizona. She has written and spoken about these experiences in popular press outlets such as Newsweek, NBC, and CBS. She is a sought-after speaker and has given over 80 national and international invited talks related to gender equity, physician well-being, and weight bias.

BioNilpa Shah is a Program Manager at the Stanford Center for Biomedical Informatics Research. Her background and expertise are in studying the impacts of sociocultural and biobehavioral determinants of health. Prior to joining Stanford University, she managed multiple research programs at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and University of California Davis where she worked in the fields of family caregiving, pain management and telementoring, patient-provider decision making in cancer treatment, and violence prevention. Shah is passionate about improving healthcare equity, patient outcomes, and healthcare access and delivery for marginalized communities.

Edward Sheen

BioEdward Sheen is Chief Medical Officer, Market Development and Solution Design for Lumeris. Lumeris is a leading value-based care delivery and population health management services operator that is transforming health systems and payers to improve health outcomes, enhance patient experience, strengthen care provider engagement, and reduce costs of care. Through its technology-enabled data management, advanced analytics, operations, clinical, strategic advisory, and change management solutions, Lumeris builds and operates all-payer population health services organizations consisting of leading integrated delivery systems and collaborative, aligned health plans to deliver accountable person-centered care.
His experience has bridged the public, private, non-profit, and academic sectors and includes work with Stanford University, the White House, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, California State Assembly, Kaiser Family Foundation, Blue Shield of California, California/American Medical Associations, and Genzyme, as well as advising early stage healthcare companies. In 2014, he was one of 15 Americans appointed by President Barack Obama a nonpartisan White House Fellow and selected to be the White House Fellow to the Secretary of Defense. In this capacity, he served as a Special Assistant to the Secretary and Defense Department senior health policy advisor and was a recipient of the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service. Dr. Sheen is also Adjunct Professor of Medicine, a Global Health Faculty Fellow, and Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is dedicated to achieving more accessible, equitable, innovative, person-centered, and high-performing health systems and caring for vulnerable populations. Additionally, he has a long-standing active commitment to mentoring, teaching, and medical education and has established new programs to support the leadership development of future change agents.
Dr. Sheen completed his Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology training at Stanford, received his MD from the University of California, San Francisco, and earned his MBA and MPH degrees through scholarships from Stanford Graduate School of Business and Harvard School of Public Health, where he was also a Harvard Kennedy School Center for Public Leadership Zuckerman Fellow. He graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a B.A. in Public Policy and induction into Phi Beta Kappa.
