Gordon Hyeonjin Bae, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor, Dermatology
BioDr. Bae is a dermatologist with Stanford Health Care and a clinical assistant professor of dermatology at Stanford University School of Medicine. He also serves as the assistant chief of quality, experience, and digital health.
Dr. Bae develops comprehensive and compassionate care plans designed to meet the complete medical, surgical, and cosmetic needs of his patients. His clinical interests include prevention and treatment of skin cancer, acne, psoriasis, as well as the full range of general dermatologic skin conditions.
He also focuses on advances in the management of rarer conditions such as Shoshin beriberi, the disease caused by thiamine deficiency, and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis. In addition, Dr. Bae has investigated the risks of skin cancer development in organ transplant patients in the United states.
His current research interests include utilizing technology and digital health solutions to expand patients’ access to dermatological care, improving the quality of care delivery, and enhancing the dermatological care experience for patients.
He has co-authored peer reviewed publications on a broad range of topics from managing rare dermatological conditions to the state of diversity within the field of academic dermatology and issues pertaining to dermatology education and mentorship. His work has appeared in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Journal of the American Medical Association, American Journal of Medicine, Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, and elsewhere.
Dr. Bae has made numerous presentations both in front of national and international audiences on various topics including autoimmune response to facial silicone injections, innovations in the laser treatment of actinic chelitis, scalp melanoma, and many other topics. He has presented at meetings of the American Academy of Dermatology, Cosmetic Surgery Forum, Association of Professors of Dermatology, and elsewhere.
Among his honors, Dr. Bae received an American Academy of Dermatology international travel grant, a Stanford Society of Physician Scholars grant, and the American Academy of Dermatology Transplant Skin Center fellowship.
Dr. Bae is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Medical Association, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He is also the founder of Refresh Bolivia, a non-profit organization serving the public health needs of underprivileged communities in Cochabamba, Bolivia. -
Elizabeth Bailey, MD, MPH
Clinical Professor, Dermatology
BioDr. Elizabeth Bailey is a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Stanford and serves as Residency Program Director and Associate Chair of Education for the Department of Dermatology. She also serves as Assistant Dean of Learner Assessment and Support for Graduate Medical Education.
She has a passion for thinking about how we communicate and how we can leverage relationships to improve how we learn, communicate, and work as a team in an inclusive and supportive environment. She loves thinking about this in the context of developing relationships with patients to help them achieve the best possible outcomes and in the context of helping our clinical teams perform to the best of their abilities. Her recent work has included development of a longitudinal coaching program for dermatology residents with a focus on patient and team communication skills development, the impact of coaching on faculty coaches in dermatology, and research on the long-term impact of longitudinal coaching on resident graduates' approach to learning.
Dr. Bailey graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University and received her medical degree from Columbia University in New York, where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. She completed her internship in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and completed both her residency in dermatology and fellowship in dermatopathology at Stanford University Medical Center. She is board certified in dermatology and dermatopathology by the American Boards of Dermatology/Pathology.
Dr. Bailey's academic interests include graduate medical education, coaching in medical education, global health education and leadership development, and interprofessional team communication. -
Irene Bailey
Clinical Trials Reg Spclst 2, Dermatology
BioIrene Bailey is a Regulatory Specialist supporting Dr. Jean Tang in the Dermatology Department. She is a trained clinical laboratory technologist from the Munster Technological University, Cork, Ireland. She worked in pre-clinical research for many years before transitioning her career to clinical research. Irene holds a Certificate in Clinical Trials Design and Management from UC Santa Cruz Extension. She started her career in clinical research at the Stanford Cancer Center, Clinical Trials Office before joining Dr. Tang's Team in 2011.
Outside of work Irene enjoys visual and performing arts, Pilates and yoga. -
Leandra A. Barnes, MD
Instructor, Dermatology
BioDr. Barnes is a board-certified dermatologist who provides care at Stanford Health Care Dermatology Clinics in Redwood City and Emeryville. She is also an Instructor of Dermatology within the Department of Dermatology at Stanford School of Medicine.
Dr. Barnes specializes in diagnosing and treating a broad range of skin conditions, including hidradenitis suppurativa, skin cancer, and conditions that disproportionally impact people of color. As Co-Director of the Stanford Medicine Hidradenitis Suppurativa Specialty Clinic, her clinical focus includes maximizing awareness of and care options for this condition. Dr. Barnes is also the Founding Director of the Stanford Medicine Skin of Color Program and Director of Advocacy, Equity, and Inclusion in the Department of Dermatology at Stanford Medicine.
Dr. Barnes’ clinical research focuses on identifying the underlying mechanisms associated with the onset and progression of hidradenitis suppurativa. These efforts include research on access to care among different patient populations and studies identifying immune-mediated characteristics of the condition. She is also engaged in efforts to promote broader and more effective outreach initiatives to drive melanoma awareness among minority populations and young children.
Dr. Barnes has published her work in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, JAMA Dermatology, and the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. She has also been an invited guest speaker at national and international meetings, including those for the Society of Investigative Dermatology and the World Congress of Dermatology. -

Muzammil Behzad
Visiting Scholar, Dermatology
BioDr. Muzammil Behzad is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the Stanford Center for Digital Health (CDH), Stanford University, USA. He is mainly working as an Assistant Professor of AI in the Department of Information and Computer Science at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Saudi Arabia, where he is also affiliated with the SDAIA-KFUPM Joint Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (JRC-AI). Dr. Behzad is a Senior Member of IEEE and the founder and director of the BRAIN Lab, a research initiative focused on advancing the frontiers of artificial intelligence.
Dr. Behzad received his Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence in 2022 from the University of Oulu, Finland, where he was also working as a scientific researcher at the Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis (CMVS). Prior to that, Dr. Behzad received his partially-funded B.S. degree (with distinctions: double medalist and valedictorian) and fully-funded M.S. degree, both in Electrical Engineering, from COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Pakistan and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Saudi Arabia, in 2013 and 2017, respectively. Dr. Behzad has held esteemed visiting research positions at globally recognized institutions, including King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia, University College London (UCL), United Kingdom, and Brown University, United States. Prior to joining KFUPM, he worked as an AI Scientist at the renowned semiconductor company AMD where he contributed to research and development (R&D) of AI solutions for real-world problems. Prior to joining CMVS, he worked as a full-time Researcher at Pukyong National University (PKNU), South Korea, and as a Research Associate at CUI, Pakistan.
Dr. Behzad's research interests are in Machine and Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Multimodal AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), Vision-Language Models (VLMs), Representation Learning, Generative AI, Agentic AI, Affective Computing, Explainable AI, Human-Computer Interaction, and AI for Healthcare. His work focuses on developing next-generation intelligent systems that bridge vision, language, and reasoning to solve real-world challenges. He has also earned the international acclaim by winning the prestigious Three-Minute Ph.D. Thesis Competition at the IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP). Dr. Behzad also has actively served the research community as a reviewer for numerous reputed journals and conferences over the years including, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, Neurocomputing, Computer Vision and Image Understanding, IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, Biomedical Signal Processing and Control, Image and Vision Computing, IEEE Access, Nature Scientific Reports, Healthcare Analytics, Visual Computer, NeurIPS, ECCV, IEEE ICIP, IEEE FG, IEEE ICASSP, IEEE MSLP, ECAI, and AIIH. Dr. Behzad is an innovative AI consultant and leading expert in machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, and vision-language models. Dr. Behzad has played a key role in bridging academic innovation with industry applications. He is a long-standing member of several professional organizations, including the European Association for Artificial Intelligence (EurAI), Finnish Artificial Intelligence Society (FAIS), IEEE, European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), British Machine Vision Association (BMVA), and the European Alliance for Innovation (EAI).

Ryanne Ashley Brown, MD, MBA
Clinical Associate Professor, Pathology
Clinical Associate Professor (By courtesy), DermatologyBioRyanne Brown, M.D., M.B.A., is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pathology and (by courtesy) Dermatology. She completed her residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology followed by Surgical Pathology and Dermatopathology fellowships at Stanford. She is board certified in both Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology (American Board of Pathology) and Dermatopathology (American Boards of Pathology/Dermatology). Her interests include cutaneous lymphoma and histiocytic neoplasms.
