Juliana 'Julie' Dresvina

BioI am a medievalist and cultural historian; my work combines history, literary criticism, art history, and psychology. One of my current research projects explores how people use self-narratives — creative, devotional, or non-fiction — as a form of therapeutic practice. I am also interested in how human-shaped spaces of spiritual significance, along with religious material objects, function therapeutically: from devotional manuscripts and misericord carvings to rock sanctuaries, holy wells, and thermal springs.
I have published monographs with Oxford University Press and Brill, and I teach interdisciplinary courses on cultural history, literature, psychology, and art, as well as do study skills mentoring. -

BioI gained my PhD from the Blackett Laboratory Laser Consortium at Imperial College London, where my primary research project was the development of a new type of mass spectrometry for the structural analysis of protein, DNA and RNA molecules. This technology is known as two-dimensional partial-covariance mass spectrometry (2D PC MS). Here at Stanford I work at the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS), using the attosecond X-ray pulses produced by the newly developed XLEAP mode to study ultrafast electronic processes in molecules. We are developing and using new spectroscopic methods in the attosecond regime to observe the motion of electrons in complex molecular systems on their natural timescale. This helps us to understand how the coherent quantum dynamics of these electronic systems affect subsequent chemical motion.

BioJunting Duan is a PhD candidate in the Department of Management Science and Engineering (MS&E) at Stanford University. Prior to joining Stanford, she received her B.S. in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from Peking University in 2020.
Junting's research interests lie broadly in data-driven decision-making, focusing on statistical inference and machine learning, with applications to causal inference and finance. Her research develops new methodologies with rigorous statistical foundations that enable reliable decision-making with complex and imperfect data, and lies at the intersection of (1) statistical learning for high-dimensional data; (2) causal inference; and (3) machine learning for finance and risk management. Her work has been recognized through publications and revisions at top journals including Management Science and the Journal of Econometrics, as well as invitations to present at major conferences such as the American Economic Association Annual Meeting, the NBER-NSF Time-Series Conference, the NBER Forecasting & Empirical Methods Conference, and the INFORMS Annual Meeting.

Mary Laurence Dunne
Adjunct Professor, Medicine - Primary Care and Population Health
BioDr. Mimi Dunne is a physician leader in palliative and emergency medicine with a longstanding commitment to innovation in end-of-life care and medical education. A 2019-2020 Stanford Distinguished Careers Institute Fellow, Dr. Dunne has co-taught MED 296: Being Mortal at Stanford University School of Medicine.
A graduate of Saint Louis University School of Medicine, she completed postgraduate training at the University of Chicago, certification in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction at the University of Massachusetts, and is board-certified in both Emergency Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. As Medical Director of Hudson Valley Hospice, she founded the region’s first palliative care program in 2001.
Her scholarly work spans emergency medicine, palliative medicine, and global health, and she has authored studies, articles, and book chapters in these fields. She currently serves as an advisor to the African Center for Research in End of Life Care in Rwanda and to Bulamu Health Care in Uganda. -
Tina Duong MPT, PhD

BioI am a senior research scientist and physical therapist with over 20 years of experience, specializing in neuromuscular clinical research. Currently, I am the Director of clinical outcomes and research developments within the Neuromuscular division and Co-Director, Stanford Innovative Genetic Neurologic Investigation and Treatment Evaluation Center. My doctoral studies focused on understanding the impact of contracture development on subsequent musculoskeletal and biomechanical changes that influence overall functional outcomes. I am deeply committed to advancing my work by creating innovative outcome measures that bridge the gap with traditional metrics for a range of neuromuscular disorders. Furthermore, I am enthusiastic about investigating the therapeutic advantages of incorporating rehabilitation and exercise as complementary treatments for managing neuromuscular conditions.
In my professional pursuits, I prioritize integrity, work ethic, humility, empathy, leadership, initiative, and drive in all my collaborations. Inspired by Ralph Waldo Emerson's poem “"to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded", I strive to contribute meaningfully in both my personal and professional endeavors. While it can be challenging to articulate one's accomplishments and impact, I aspire to uphold the values and principles that guide me, serving as a compass in navigating both my personal and professional path. I find it difficult to summarize my own accomplishments or impact. So I would like to share a recommendation that was written about me in which I hope to refer back as my north star in both my personal and professional life.

I had the privilege of working with her side by side during the development of a new therapy for spinal muscular atrophy. I also provide one-on-one research consultations in data science tools, as well as workshops in Python toolkits such as GDAL, Pandas, and GeoPandas.
