Lara Foland-Ross
Clinical Assistant Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
BioI am a neuroscientist and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University, where I serve as Associate Director of Precision Mental Health Research Programs in the Stanford Center for Precision Mental Health (CPMH). My research uses neuroimaging, cognitive, and behavioral approaches to understand individual differences in the brain systems underlying mood and cognition, with the goal of translating these differences into more precise approaches to mental health care.
A central focus of my work is understanding how individual brain and behavioral patterns can inform prognosis and treatment selection for depression. Currently, I serve as Scientific Director and Co-Investigator of ACE-D (“Accelerating Cognition-guided signatures to Enhance translation in Depression”), a large NIH-funded study testing cognition-guided precision approaches to depression treatment.
I also serve as Scientific Program Lead and a Commissioner for the Nature Mental Health Precision Mental Health Commission, an international initiative working to define the field of precision mental health and accelerate the translation of its strongest science into meaningful clinical use.
Across these roles, I am particularly interested in bridging scientific discovery and clinical application—identifying where current approaches fall short, asking questions that can change how we understand mental health, and helping build practical paths from research findings to better decisions and outcomes for patients. -
Kate Folk

BioKate Folk is the author of a novel, Sky Daddy (Random House 2025), and a short story collection, Out There (Random House 2022). Her stories and essays have appeared in The New Yorker, the New York Times Magazine, n+1, One Story, Granta, and The Baffler, among other venues. A 2019-2021 Stegner Fellow, she’s also received fellowships from MacDowell, the Headlands Center for the Arts, and Willapa Bay AiR. She is currently a lecturer in creative writing at Stanford University.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy current research interest is the intersection of psychiatry and neuroimmunology. I am currently collaborating with Stanford Neuroimmunology in a retrospective analysis of patient data to determine the relationship between psychaitric medications and clinical outcomes in hospitalized patients with mutliple sclerosis, autoimmune encephalitis, and neuromyelitis optica.

Debra Fong

BioViolinist Debra Fong is Concertmaster of the Peninsula Symphony, Associate Concertmaster of the San Jose Chamber Orchestra, and Principal Second Violinist of the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra. She spends her summers as a first violinist with the Grammy Award-winning Santa Fe Opera Orchestra.
Also dedicated teacher, Debra is a Lecturer in Music at Stanford University, teaching violin and chamber music, and she maintains a private violin studio. She is a faculty coach for Young Chamber Musicians, a guest conductor for the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra, and a judge for several annual young artist concerto competitions. Debra is a former violin faculty member at The College of William & Mary, The Music Institute of Chicago, and New England Conservatory of Music Preparatory School.
Debra received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Violin Performance with Honors and Distinction from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where she studied with Eric Rosenblith, James Buswell, Eugene Lehner, and Louis Krasner.
Debra has been a featured chamber musician at Toronto Summer Music; Bay Chamber Concerts in Maine; Grand Teton Music Festival; Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival; Yellow Barn Chamber Music Festival in Vermont; Sarasota Music Festival; and Yale/Norfolk Chamber Music Festival in Connecticut. She has been a guest artist with the St. Lawrence String Quartet, Chicago Chamber Musicians, North American New Music Festival in Buffalo, NY, and the New Music Festival at Santa Clara University. Debra is an avid proponent of contemporary music and has worked closely with composers such as Olivier Messiaen, Thomas Adès, Joan Tower, Bright Sheng, and Kaija Saariaho.
Debra's discography includes recordings with The Santa Fe Opera, indie pop vocalist Vienna Teng, Stanford Chamber Chorale, composer John Luther Adams, Mannheim Steamroller, and she has performed on numerous film soundtracks.
Debra plays a Giuseppe Rocca violin kindly on loan from Stanford University’s Harry R. Lange Instrument Collection. In her leisure time, Debra enjoys reading modern fiction, practicing yoga, playing word games, and seeking out excellent coffee. -
Gail Fong

Current Role at StanfordGail Fong is currently the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) Deputy Director for Operations at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory since 2015. She oversees the LCLS Business Operations group, which includes Finance, Facilities, Administration, Operations Support, and the User Support. In addition, she serves on many SLAC-wide committees and is the liaison to the Lab Operations divisions.
