Ishita Ghai
Postdoctoral Scholar, General Internal Medicine
BioIshita Ghai is a health policy researcher that applies causal inference methods to understand how health behaviors are shaped through individual and group factors in low-resource settings. She mainly studies these empirical questions in the context of randomized controlled trials, or through evaluations leveraging exogenous shocks using quasi-experimental techniques. She has managed several pilot and large randomized controlled trials across sub-Saharan Africa studying the short and long-term effects of health interventions on health outcomes for women, children, and people living with HIV/AIDS. At Stanford, she will advance work on medicine policy specifically focused on the effects of the shingles vaccine on dementia risk among older populations.
She completed her doctoral studies in policy analysis (economics concentration) at the RAND School of Public Policy, and holds an MBA from the University of California, Davis, an Ed.M. in international education policy from Harvard University, and a B.Tech in bioinformatics from VIT University. -

Ph.D. Student in Environment and Resources, admitted Autumn 2023
BioRwaida Gharib is a PhD candidate at Stanford's Doerr School of Sustainability and an MSx candidate at the Graduate School of Business. She studies climate displacement and the protection and resource allocation for frontline communities. Her field research spans across East Africa, Central America, and wildfire-affected communities in California, tracing how narrative, policy, and capital shape institutional support.
She is a Climate and Environmental Justice Fellow at the Center for Just Environmental Futures, a King Center Global Development Scholar, and has contributed to adaptation finance research at Stanford's Sustainable Finance Institute and the GSB's Ecopreneurship Program. -
Zahra Ghazi-Askar
Clinical Associate Professor, Emergency Medicine
Clinical Associate Professor, PediatricsBioDr. Ghazi-Askar is Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and, by courtesy, of Pediatrics and serves as the Director of Pediatric Ultrasound Education in the Department of Emergency Medicine . As an academic clinical educator in with expertise in pediatric and adult point-of-care ultrasound, Dr. Ghazi-Askar's clinical focus is on children and young adults who seek care in the pediatric emergency department. She is specialty-board certified in pediatric emergency medicine.
At a national level, Dr. Ghazi-Askar is the Chair of Point-of-Care Ultrasound subcommittee for the Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD), where she is leading the development of an educational curriculum for pediatric residency point-of-care ultrasound.
Dr. Ghazi-Askar also has expertise in the field of Tele-ultrasound, where she is able to teach point-of-care ultrasound virtually where clinical expertise may otherwise not be available. Here she is able to provide education and health equity when it is most needed. -
Zaniar Ghazizadeh
Instructor, Medicine - Cardiovascular Medicine
BioDr. Ghazizadeh is a Cardiac Electrophysiologist at Stanford. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Yale before moving to Stanford to pursue fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology.
Dr. Ghazizadeh's clinical interests focus on the management of complex cardiac arrhythmias. His research centers on developing computational and wet-lab platforms to study cardiac electrophysiology and the mechanisms underlying cardiac arrhythmias.
His work integrates a broad range of systems, including human biobanks, genetically engineered human and animal models, and nontraditional model organisms, to uncover the molecular and physiological basis of cardiac arrhythmias. His research has been supported by NIH, AHA, and several Stanford University funding programs. As a clinician-scientist, his long-term goal is to translate these discoveries into improved risk stratification tools and novel therapeutic strategies to prevent and treat cardiac arrhythmias. -

Sadegh Ghorbani
Casual - Non-Exempt, Geballe Laboratory for Advanced Materials
Staff, Program-Heilshorn, S.BioA biotechnologist with a focus on protein-based hydrogels, aimed at exploring the intricate processes of neurogenesis, brain tumors, and the signaling pathways governing their cell-cell and cell-matrix adhesion. Through the utilization of customizable hydrogels that incorporate cell-adhesive sequences, our primary objective is to mimic the native microenvironment of the nervous system within 3D systems, allowing us to discern the intricate responses of cells on engineered and functional bio-interfaces. My work is driven by dual-core objectives. Firstly, I am committed to enhancing the treatment of peripheral nerve injuries by devising a therapeutic approach that is both efficient and effective. Secondly, I am involved in investigating the complex interactions between brain cancer cells and neuronal cells in precisely defined microenvironments.
