Scott Hutchins

BioScott Hutchins is a former Truman Capote fellow in the Wallace Stegner Program at Stanford University. His work has appeared in StoryQuarterly, Catamaran, Five Chapters, The Owls, The Rumpus, The New York Times, San Francisco Magazine and Esquire, and has been set to improvisational jazz. He is the recipient of two major Hopwood awards and the Andrea Beauchamp prize in short fiction. In 2006 and 2010, he was an artist-in-residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. His novel A Working Theory of Love was a San Francisco Chronicle and Salon Best Book of 2012 and has been translated into nine languages.

Current Research and Scholarly InterestsMy group deciphers how G protein-coupled receptors decode extracellular cues into dynamic and context-specific cellular signaling networks to elicit diverse physiologic responses. We exploit quantitative proteomics to capture the spatiotemporal organization of signaling networks combined with functional genomics to study their impact on physiology.

Duc Tan Huynh

BioAs a cell biologist interested in neuroscience, I am fascinated about the molecular basis of nervous system disorders that reveal therapeutic targets and/or biomarkers. My long-term research goal is to identify strategies that revert dysregulation in aging or neurodegeneration. For my postdoctoral training in the Zuchero lab (Neurosurgery), I will investigate how myelination, an essential developmental process, contributes to intelligence and neurodegeneration at the biochemical, cellular, and physiological level. I received my BSc at UCLA and my PhD at Duke University.

Khoi Huynh

BioKhoi Huynh (he/him) is a program support associate with the Natural Capital Alliance and previously worked for Stanford's Department of Physics for many years. Born in Vietnam, he grew up in rural Michigan and earned his BA from Michigan State University. A birder since childhood, he is enthusiastic about environmental protection, sustainability and appreciation for the natural world. He's also a longtime musician, performing and recording with numerous bands, one of which is the house band for Lindsay Wildlife Experience's annual celebration of Lord Richard, the world's oldest turkey vulture.

She earned her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident. She then went on to fulfill a fellowship in Interventional Spine at Stanford University. She specializes in non-operative spine and musculoskeletal care, including fluoroscopic and ultrasound guided procedures.

BioHarold Y. Hwang is the Shadi and Omid Farokhzad Professor in the School of Humanities and Sciences, of Applied Physics (Stanford University), of Photon Science (SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory), Senior Fellow of the Precourt Institute for Energy, and Director of the Stanford Institute for Materials and Energy Sciences. He received a BS in Physics, BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from MIT (1993), and a PhD in Physics from Princeton University (1997). He was formerly a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories (1996-2003) and on the faculty at the University of Tokyo (2003-2010). His research is in condensed matter and materials physics, with a focus on correlated electrons and emergent phenomena in quantum materials, and heterostructures for energy applications and devices.

Jackelyn Hwang
Associate Professor of Sociology
BioJackelyn Hwang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Director of the Changing Cities Research Lab. Jackelyn’s main research interests are in the fields of urban sociology, race and ethnicity, immigration, and inequality. In particular, her research uses innovative data, measures, and methods to answer: how do neighborhood-level dynamics that are typically racialized drive changes in US residential segregation? Her projects focus on how residential sorting mechanisms shape how gentrification unfolds over time and space, the consequences of gentrification on residential displacement, and developing data and measurement infrastructures for improving measures of gentrification, including developing automated methods using computer vision to measure visible neighborhood conditions and their changes over time from Google Street View imagery. By improving our understanding of urban change and segregation, her work aims to advance policy solutions that promote racial equity as cities change.
Jackelyn received her B.A.S. in Sociology and Mathematics from Stanford University and her Ph.D. in Sociology and Social Policy from Harvard University. After completing her Ph.D., she was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Office of Population Research at Princeton University. Her research has been supported by the American Sociological Association, the Joint Center for Housing Studies, the National Science Foundation, among others. Her work has appeared in the American Journal of Sociology, American Sociological Review, City & Community, Demography, Social Forces, Sociological Methods and Research, Sociological Methodology, and Urban Affairs Review, and other academic journals. -

Candice Hwang

Masters Student in Epidemiology and Clinical Research, admitted Autumn 2026BioDr. Candice Hwang is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Stanford Division of Hospital Medicine with a passion for improving healthcare in low-resource settings around the world. She completed medical school at Northwestern University, during which she became an NIH Fogarty Global Health Fellow and studied the impact of health policy changes for pregnant women living with HIV in South Africa. She then completed residency at Stanford University, where she created a rotation abroad in Guangzhou, China, to study the uptake of doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis to decrease rates of sexually transmitted infections among men who have sex with men. Currently, Dr. Hwang is pursuing a Master’s in Epidemiology at Stanford University to continue expanding her research in China, with a focus on using digital health interventions to improve primary care quality in rural Dali.
