Joel Koh
Affiliate, Computational Medicine
BioJoel Koh is the Chief Technology Officer at One X Group, an AI and software company that designs and builds AI systems for businesses. With over a decade of experience at the intersection of technology and business transformation, he works with organizations to translate AI capabilities into practical, business-ready solutions.
Leveraging his technical and strategic background, Joel provides hands-on guidance in areas such as AI strategy development, software implementation, systems design, and technology adoption. His experience across large, complex organizations enables him to offer grounded, execution-focused advice that bridges the gap between emerging technology and real business needs.
He is also a Member of Technical Staff & AI Researcher at Stanford University's ARISE (AI Research and Science Evaluation) lab in San Francisco, California, where he works directly with leading AI labs including OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic, contributing to independent research benchmarking frontier AI systems and evaluating their real-world performance against clinical and scientific reasoning standards. -
Matthew Kohrman
Associate Professor of Anthropology, and by courtesy, of Medicine (Stanford Prevention and Research Center) and Senior Fellow, by courtesy, at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies
BioMatthew Kohrman’s research and writing bring anthropological methods to bear on the ways health, culture, and politics are interrelated. Focusing on the People's Republic of China, he engages various intellectual terrains such as governmentality, gender theory, political economy, critical science studies, narrativity, and embodiment. His first monograph, Bodies of Difference: Experiences of Disability and Institutional Advocacy in the Making of Modern China, raises questions about how embodied aspects of human existence, such as our gender, such as our ability to propel ourselves through space as walkers, cyclists and workers, become founts for the building of new state apparatuses of social provision, in particular, disability-advocacy organizations. Over the last decade, Prof. Kohrman has been involved in research aimed at analyzing and intervening in the biopolitics of cigarette smoking among Chinese citizens. This work, as seen in his recently edited volume--Poisonous Pandas: Chinese Cigarette Manufacturing in Critical Historical Perspectives--expands upon heuristic themes of his earlier disability research and engages in novel ways techniques of public health, political philosophy, and spatial history. More recently, he has begun projects linking ongoing interests at the intersection of phenomenology and political economy with questions regarding environmental attunement and the arts.

Fikunwa Kolawole
MD Student with Scholarly Concentration in Bioengineering / Cardiovascular-Pulmonary Sciences, expected graduation Spring 2028
BioFikunwa is a mechanical engineering Ph.D. candidate in the cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Lab (Ennis Lab) in the Stanford Radiology Department. His research, which is at the intersection between medicine and engineering, is focused on developing mechanics-based clinical biomarkers for heart disease. Through his research, he aims to establish a comprehensively validated and clinically viable tool for estimating in vivo heart tissue stiffness to better understand and manage heart failure.
He began his academic journey as a mechanical engineering undergraduate student at Howard University during which time he also worked as a researcher at the FDA’s department of applied mechanics, characterizing the mechanical response of metals used in implantable cardiovascular devices. At Howard, he also supported research in the Applied Mechanics and Materials Lab and Biosensors Lab, as an undergraduate research assistant. Upon completing his undergraduate studies, in 2019, he joined Stanford University’s mechanical engineering department. He is also affiliated with the Radiology departments at Stanford and the Veterans Administration Palo Alto Health Care System. He is deeply passionate about empowering minority students to pursue STEM careers. Additionally, he is a fellow of the Bio-X, Stanford’s Interdisciplinary biosciences institute -

Jayme Koltsov, PhD
Senior Biostatistician, Orthopaedic Surgery
BioDr. Koltsov is an expert in clinical and translational orthopaedic research design and biostatistics with a unique and valuable combination of skill-sets. Her foundation from her Ph.D. in orthopaedic biomechanics provides an understanding of the underlying anatomy, pathology, and mechanics not typical for a biostatistician. This background empowers effective and efficient communication with clinicians and scientists and enables Dr. Koltsov to develop study designs and analytic strategies exceptionally tailored to the physical orthopaedic problems under investigation.
Dr. Koltsov has an extensive knowledge base in research methodology and statistical methods honed from her PhD onward, including univariate statistics (parametric, non-parametric, and categorical); survival analysis (Kaplan Meier and Cox proportional hazards); multivariable and longitudinal data analyses (logistic regression, generalized linear modeling, linear mixed models, hierarchical and repeated measures modeling, and generalized estimating equations,); quasi-experimental techniques for reducing bias (propensity score matching and inverse probability treatment weighting); patient reported outcome design and validation; diagnostic test validation; and healthcare economic analysis. Over the past 11 years, Dr. Koltsov has developed a successful track record of collaborations with clinicians and scientists to lead and facilitate high-quality clinical, translational, and health services research spanning multiple orthopaedic disciplines, including spine, arthroplasty, foot and ankle, upper extremity, trauma, sports medicine, pediatrics, rheumatology, rehabilitation, and biomechanics.
