Thien Crisanto
Undergraduate Advising Director, Academic Advising Operations
BioThiên Crisanto (pronounced Tee-en Chris-on-tow) serves as an Undergraduate Advising Director in the Academic Advising Office (VPUE). She brings a unique blend of scientific expertise, creative industry experience, and dedication to student success to her role. Before joining Academic Advising, she supported students as an Academic Coach at Stanford’s Center for Teaching and Learning.
Thiên earned her Ph.D. in Plant Biology from UC Berkeley, where she conducted research in microalgal photosynthesis, bioenergetics, and molecular genetics. As an undergraduate, she transferred to Cal Poly Humboldt and majored in Cellular and Molecular Biology with a minor in Botany. There, she researched photosynthetic sea slugs, macroalgae, marine-based solutions for climate change, and bioengineering. Her academic journey began with an A.A. in Merchandise Product Development from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, followed by several years of experience as a designer, costumer, and visual merchandiser.
Her commitment to student success began at Cal Poly Humboldt, where she served as a peer mentor, and continued through multiple roles at UC Berkeley—including facilitating internships and conferences, peer advising, and participating in student government. This foundation has evolved into a career centered on supporting student persistence, resilience, and academic development. Over the years, she has helped students successfully secure internships, gain admission to Ph.D. and medical school programs, and launch meaningful careers.
In addition to academic advising, Thiên is especially passionate about supporting Stanford students who are navigating anxiety related to high achievement, exploring their goals, and facing academic challenges, particularly in rigorous STEM fields. Having taken a nontraditional path herself, she is deeply committed to normalizing the wide range of experiences students bring to college and helping students access opportunities that may initially feel out of reach.
Outside of work, Thiên can be found enjoying her many hobbies, which include paddling along the California coast, camping with her animals, composing music, practicing yoga, long-distance roller skating, or sewing whimsical costumes. A Southern California native, she has lived in four different regions of the state; her favorite being the far Northern Coast. She dedicates her volunteer time to ocean-health initiatives and to programs that expand access to surfing opportunities.
Thiên is fluent in Vietnamese. -
Colton Crosby
Ph.D. Student in Aeronautics and Astronautics, admitted Summer 2024
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsI am a Ph.D. candidate in Aeronautics and Astronautics studying how learned robot policies can be made reliable once they leave the lab. Rather than retraining a policy to make it safer, I am interested in methods that monitor a policy as it runs, predict when it is heading toward failure, and recover before that failure occurs. My current interests include safety for locomanipulation, multi-robot collaboration, and fault recovery for learned policies.

Bradley Dean Crow
Clinical Assistant Professor, Orthopaedic Surgery
BioDr. Crow is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacements with expertise in minimally invasive anterior total hip and quadriceps sparing total knee replacements. He joined Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley in 2023 as a Clinical Assistant Professor with fifteen years experience in private practice.
Having competed in marathons, ultramarathons, ironman distance triathlons and endurance cycling events, Dr. Crow understands a patient's desire to maintain their current level of activity and function. By offering the latest advancements in hip and knee replacement surgery, his goal is to help every patient achieve successful outcomes. Part of his practice focuses on joint preservation, including knee arthroscopy procedures and partial knee replacement.
Prior to joining Standford Healthcare, Dr. Crow has developed practice and hospital protocols. He has performed thousands of life changing joint replacements with the goal to facilitate patient's recoveries utilizing soft-tissue sparing techniques, multi-modal pain management and rapid rehabilitation protocols. With advanced expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of a multitude of hip and knee conditions, he focuses on a multi-disciplinary team approach from the initial office consultation, through the hospital stay, and post operative recovery at home.
Dr. Crow completed his undergraduate and medical school education at St. Louis University. After orthopaedic surgery residency training at the University of Missouri, Dr. Crow completed a fellowship at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, CA, gaining extensive experience and specialized training in primary hip and knee replacement surgery and complex revision surgery. This is where he first had exposure to robotic knee surgery and minimally invasive techniques. He has had research published in peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals and presented at regional and national meetings. He is a fellow member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and California Orthopaedic Association.
Dr. Crow welcomes referrals of patients with hip and knee complaints from primary care physicians and specialists. -

Alia Crum
Associate Professor of Psychology and, by courtesy, of Medicine (Primary Care & Population Health)
Current Research and Scholarly InterestsOur lab focuses on how subjective mindsets (e.g., thoughts, beliefs and expectations) can alter objective reality through behavioral, psychological, and physiological mechanisms. We are interested in understanding how mindsets affect important outcomes both within and beyond the realm of medicine, in the domains such as exercise, diet and stress. https://mbl.stanford.edu/
